Jim Webb and the Democrats’ white-man problem
Washington Post ^ | 01/06/2015 | By Nia-Malika Henderson

Some think Jim Webb could be the liberal Democratic alternative to Hillary Clinton in 2016. Perhaps it's more likely, though, that Webb could position himself as something the Democratic Party — or any party, really — hasn't seen in some time: the vocal champion of the working-class white man.

The former Virginia senator offered this critique of his party to Matt Bai over at Yahoo!, and it sounds like something that you might hear on the campaign trail going forward.

“I think this is where Democrats screw up, you know?” Webb said. “I think that they have kind of unwittingly used this group, white working males, as a whipping post for a lot of their policies. And then when they react, they say they're being racist.”

Rather than run as a liberal (which he is not, in a whole host of ways), Webb could run as a kind of anti-Hillary. He would be an explicit counter to the sort of progressive, feminist narrative that would inherently undergird a Clinton run. He would also be the anti-Obama, a break from the sort of identity politics around race, gender and ethnicity that have, in Webb's telling, excluded working-class white men.

(A white woman running for president after the nation's first black president could certainly underscore the "what about us" feeling among this demographic.)

The Democrats have a white flight problem.

They've got an American alienation problem. Their policies are an Obamination to the American people (by en-large).

Hillary has a severe women problem. She’s been seen in horrible clothing, wears horrible glasses and is horrible for the family. She has a severe women problem (other than for the ultra-libs).

Maybe in the general election. But in the primaries Webb poses all sorts of risks to the Dems by exposing the fault lines between the white working class Dems and the members of the Dems perpetually aggrieved special interests coalition. Fault lines that have been glossed over in recent Presidential election contests.

In order to get votes, Webb will need to tick off the working class whites about getting kicked around by the perpetually aggrieved interests. Which WILL spur a reaction by those interests. A reaction that will serve to confirm/validate Webb’s arguments.

It won’t turn out well, I think.

that speaks volumes about the empty dem bench for 2016.

Which speaks volumes of the failure of Obama to provide any positive leadership at all. It seems that hillary is delaying the announcement process so no leadership can emerge to oppose her.

If the dems end up with Webb/Warren, I'd vote for that instead of Jeb, Christie, or Romney or any other globalist elitists who backstab or ignore conservative issues.

Hillary reminds many men of their first wives, if you get my drift. Her voice is like nails on the blackboard. Her voice drips with elitism and condescension when she tells us things such as how businesses and corporations don’t create jobs. She’s just a bad candidate.

I never understood why she is somehow entitled to be president just because her husband was president.

“Because she’s a woman, she has difficulty relating to white male working stiffs.”

No, it’s because she’s ugly inside and out!

I think that by 2020, you're not going to find too many middle class whites who admit to being a Democrat.

The Democrat party is bleeding white folk.

The Dems won’t nominate a straight white male for a generation.

Rather than run as a liberal (which he is not, in a whole host of ways). . .

I could vote for Jim Webb

I thought Webb was one of us, decades ago. But when he got to his one term in the Senate, it turned out he didn't have two principles to rub together. As I recall, he voted the way his Stalinist masters ordered every time without complaint, including for abortion wrongs. And I don't recall him making a peep to reverse the persecution of men in the military, and pushing girls toward the front—which should have been his strong suit.

Cannot forget the disrespect he gave to President Bush when asked about his son. What a dirt bag answer to give your CIC. Not one vote should go to the clown.

Bill Clinton is a lovable rogue, even to people who disagree with him. Everyone who has been in a room with him says he makes you feel like you're his friend. He is also the best strategic politician I've seen since Nixon.

Hillary has none of that. She's also running a resume campaign because she hasn't figured out how to square the circle that is the modern Democrat party. She knows Obama's policies are wildly unpopular, but can't go back to Bill's triangulation without totally alienating the batshit crazy base.

I agree with you, I don't see her getting the nomination. I'm not even sure she'll bother to run.

Democrat’s are screwed in the very near future due to their racist identity politics.

They have become the party of minorities, queers, public sector unions, and urban liberal cities.

The cities are going bankrupt due the public sector pensions and their minorities are rioting. That effects the queers and white liberals as they fight for fewer and fewer dollars to keep their liberal cities intact.

The entire party is urban, they win nothing else. Those cities are falling apart, and their party with it!

I kinda doubt she has seen a male stiff in 30 years, much less relate to any.

Webb said. “I think that they have kind of unwittingly used this group, white working males, as a whipping post for a lot of their policies. And then when they react, they say they're being racist.”

There was nothing unwitting about it, nor is it intended to stop. The radicals in charge of the Democrat party have moved from "What can we take from them?" to "How can we get revenge on them?" The ones afraid of being racist are the ones who might speak for them in Congress and do not.

If you had an electorate that voted rationally and objectively, the democrats couldn’t get anyone elected to the office of 3rd shift assistant mens’ room attendant. But the American electorate no longer collectively acts in a rational and objective manner. The democrats have successfully created a large base of perpetual mooches; whether they are dependent on the mooching or not is irrelevant. Once someone gets a “freebie” from the government, they will never vote for someone who might take it away from them.

And if the democrats have done anything well, it is to position themselves as the party who will never say “no.”

Totally agree on that - the sooner people know how or what he thinks about - in the incident I’m thinking about, it’s not only pedophilia but between a father and son.

Except cities are going bankrupt and will have to say NO, and all the liberal groups live in cities!
