I was born in Brooklyn and lived there, or in Manhattan, until I was 30. I left for good in 1980.
I would say that most NYC libs have serious denial problems re: blacks in their environment. First, you should know that blacks tend to keep to themselves (above 110th Street in Manhattan, and in Crown Heights/Bed-Stuy/East NY in Brooklyn) and only are street predators after dark. So, daytime in Midtown, or downtown, or White Brooklyn, or even in the parks is remarkably monocultural. Secondly, rich whites (and their population in NYC has exploded) invest enormous sums of money, as well as time and effort, keeping away from blacks (and keeping blacks away from themselves). After Rudy sent 20 000 habitual criminals up the river, NYC became the safest large city in America, and you could have a seriously white life there (until now).
So, to answer your question about what they think, they say one thing and act differently. The whole life of a midtown white high-rise inhabitant is designed around staying away from blacks while denying any intention of doing so.
This invasion of Sunday brunch may have far-ranging consequences for this pattern of denial. We'll see if #BlackBrunch shows up at Zabar's next week.

I would simply get up and leave. It is clearly an unsafe situation. The proprietor has failed to meet his part of the contract, which is to provide edible food and an environment in which to eat it in peace.
They could have spouted their multi-cultural nonsense to their lib friends to keep their liberal bona-fides, but voted differently at the polls all the while publicly (and hypocritically) condemning those "racists" who voted for DeBlasio's opponent.
Now they have the worst of both worlds...they have an incompetent, leftist tool for a mayor, and blacks still hate them.

I might also throw in that there are a plethora of residential high rises going up in Manhattan that are being marketed to the uber-rich. Some of these high rises already have or will exceed in height the Empire State Building.
In order for these luxury units to sell and maintain their value, Manhattan must be kept safe below 110th Street and the high end restaurants, shops, theaters, etc., must be able to thrive as that is what is attracting the uber-rich to the city.
It will be interesting to see how things develop in the weeks and months ahead. If Di Blasio cannot make amends with the NYPD (and I don't see how that can happen) then he's either going to have to go or the city is going to slip back into the kind of lawlessness we saw during the bad days of the 1960s and 1970s.
Personally, I don't think the "uber-rich" who are spending tens of millions of dollars on high rise apartments there are going to allow the latter to happen. So if the NYPD continues their "slowdown" or whatever you want to call it, DiBlasio is a goner.
