Obama asks FCC to regulate Internet as utility
thestate.com ^ | Jan 3 2015 | DON WORTHINGTON

Late last year, Obama asked the Federal Communications Commission to create a new set of rules to make sure everyone has access to the Internet and that phone and cable companies would not be allowed "to act as a gatekeeper, restricting what you can do or see online."

“society has to be forced to help society”

Who’s forcing society to do this for society? Society? Then how did society decide to force society to help society? Were they pushed to do so by society? So we needed society to induce a show of force by society to coerce society into helping society. When do we get to something outside society? Or is it society all the way down in some sort of eternal reccurence? Or maybe it’s like Ouroboros, a circle consisting of society biting its own tail.

But ISPs aren’t utilities, nor public. Somebody owns those servers, those cables, those satellites. The federal gubmint didn’t build them, like whatever the Tennessee Valley Authority got up to. What couldn’t be considered a “utility,” I wonder. All the word means, really, is that it’s useful. Hey, your house is nice; I could find a use for it. Give it to me, in the name of the common good!

Meanwhile and of greater concern is the fact that Obama is ready and eager to take freedom-loving governance of worldwide Internet and hand it over on a silver platter to the repressive censors of this planet. In every sphere, he demonstrates a hate of freedom and a hate of the U.S. and a support for totalitarian regimes. Boistering up a failed Cuba in contradiction of more than 50 yeaars of State Department and Executive Branch policy was just the latest gift to bloody Communism this week.

Woe to the U.S. and the rest of the free world for having been tragically asleep at the wheel in not recognizing the extreme danger to the planet of unheard of Manchurian Candidate, Barack Obama.

Where I live we only have ONE phone company, I tried to change but due the fact that small phone companies get an exemption from competition, I am stuck with either dialup or DSL. There is no cable company here they pulled out and removed all there cable from he poles.

The only other option is satellite Internet, but they use a FAP policy, so there is no other answer for this other then a way to control content and NOT access.

LOL! Tell me about it, this all reminds me of that movie Logans run from the 1970s where the government has determined the world is overpopulated so it mandates all people must die at 30 years old and all the sheeple completely accept it. Same type of mentality here “Government knows best even though government is run by some of the dumbest people in the world”. I was talking about this the other day about the black community and those protests, the government has them completely convinced all cops are racists even though in NYC for example white cops are the minority. Obama meets with Sharpton 85 times, Sharpton goes out and organizes these protests to take attention off the King Kenyan, and they all buy into it. Destroying property, rioting looting, and eventually 2 cops get executed and Obama gets to clean out Gitmo without any fanfare, mission accomplished.

I have no cable company and just one phone company. My main choices are DSL (not good), satellite which i used for years (terrible), and rather sluggish cellular. I use the latter. I pay for two providers which is only slightly better than one since many people's phones will switch to roam after one provider is gummed up. But I can eke out some service most of the time.

I'll tell you what this is really about. It is not to provide some semblance of decent service for folks like you and me, that is out of the question. For one thing we are conservative rural voters. What it is really about is to ensure that city and suburban dwellers have full access to the streaming video circus. That is the second part of the government's "bread and circus" mandate, one of the surest signs of decline and imminent collapse before we are overrun by the Islamic hordes.

What is the big deal with streaming video? Simply that it uses up a huge amount of the internet. Google's youtube and netflix alone use up more than 70% of all bandwidth. The thing is, if you want to watch a decent video like a classic movie, political narrative or educational material, you can easily do that by downloading it at any old speed and watching it later. What is streaming video about? It is really about the violent and/or soft core porn trash served up by most major and minor networks, along with the "news" shows that toe the statist line, along with sports which is the gladiator part of the bread and circuses.

Simply put, the federal-government-enforced prioritization of streaming soft core porn, main stream media dreck and state propaganda passing as news, and gladiator sports is not a valid reason to allow federal control of the internet (sorry for the bold, but some other people here don't get it).

In fact, allowing the government to prioritize streaming video crap will ultimately have the effect of censorship of content like what we are posting here today. The reason for that is empirical. I can tell you for a fact that when people try (mostly unsuccessfully) to use our local cell service to stream video, I get no service. As in zero.

What are the positions of the potential replacements for Speaker Boehner?
This would be one, of many, good issue to discuss.
Not about each others flaws, but their own program to defang the Obama monster.
