Wrong. Republicans won 4 consecutive elections between 1896 and 1908 and occupied the presidency from 1897 to 1913. McKinley won in 1896 and 1900. Teddy Roosevelt served the remaining 3.5 years of McKinley's second term and won election in his own right in 1904. In 1908 Taft won a forth consecutive Republican presidential race without the advantage of incumbency. Taft probably would have won reelection in 1912 if TR hadn't run again on a third party ticket.
OK, thanks. I guess my memory had to do with a VP succeeding a 2 term POTUS to do 12 years. I was going by what ‘41’ said when he won in ‘88.
The point, tho, is that it’s rare (certainly in modern times) to have one party in the WH for more than 2 consecutive terms. Mario could have saved us from Slick Willy (tho I don’t know the trade-off makes that much difference).
