Drat! Foiled again!
That is going to be the feeling of much of the mainstream media which has been incessantly pushing the narrative about House majority whip Steve Scalise supposedly speaking at a David Duke sponsored white supremacist event in 2002. It turns out that it never happened. Instead he spoke at a local neighborhood association. And who discovered this vital information? A very unexpected source, the liberal Slate. Betsy Knight explains what really happened and the reason for the confusion:

Where was his GOP support group during his hour of need? Hiding behind Boehner? Neither side looked very closely at the event, chosing instead to react to all the bogus accusations. We have already lost Grimm due to unpaid taxes, something the DEMs chose to ignore with Al Sharpton and many others.
Theres another thread running filled with excuses for why this RINO apologized for something he did not do.
Anyone here want to make an excuse for why a man accused of Klan association, and did not have Klan associations, went out and apologized for them?

The dems figured out that it could topple their sweetheart deal with Boehner by toppling Boehner, so they ‘found’ Scalise didn’t do something that apparently Scalise thought he had done. Sounds suspect to me.

Besides, even if the information about Scalise is correct, they’ve muddied the waters, and only need to keep them muddy for ONE WEEK. The Speaker election will be over, and then all Boehner needs do is replace Scalise and not worry about it contaminating him.

I have to say, I mentioned yesterday that any story that originates from the Southern Poverty Law Center is not only suspect, but suspicious as hell.
But in defense of the MSM, It really is possibly true that Steve Scalise knows someone who knows someone whose brother in law knows a nephew of someone who is a friend of David Duke. Maybe.
The question remains...WHY did he apologize for an event that did not happen?
The Left has NO interest in hounding Scalise oute of Washington. He is a loyal Boehner/Obamanite and who knows what he would be replaced with.
This confirms my notion that most politicians have little idea what group they’re addressing or what meeting they’re attending. Aides set everything up and tell them what to say.
On the other thread, we were told that he merely forgot/was confused and that something like speaking to a Klan group is a forgettable sorta thing.
Not sure how low so called conservatives on Free Republic are willing to go lately lying to themselves and everyone else in an effort to keep liberal RINOs in power, but it seems they are no different than any other liberal in their ability to make excuses surrounding even KLAN involvement.
