Conservatives Must Crush Any Opposition To Senator Mike Lee

Senator Mike Lee of Utah is one of the Senate’s few committed limited government constitutional conservatives and we here at CHQ admire him greatly for approaching every debate and every vote from a constitutional perspective.

Senator Lee, along with Senator Ted Cruz, fought the hated CRomnibus spending bill with every tool he could muster, even bring-up a rare constitutional point of order against the bill that forced the Senate to (gasp) work on a Saturday.

Lee is up for re-election in 2016 and his strict adherence to the constitution has earned him the support and respect of grassroots conservative voters in Utah. The Club for Growth PAC, Senate Conservatives Fund, and Madison Project recently released the results of a poll done by Basswood Research surveying likely Republican Primary voters in the 2016 Utah Senate race. The poll finds Lee in an extremely strong position for re-nomination.

Among the poll highlights:

Senator Lee has a +65 favorable rating, with 76% of Utah Republicans having a favorable opinion of Lee and only 11% having an unfavorable opinion. By contrast, Senator Orrin Hatch, while also popular, has a 72% favorable rating and 23% unfavorable rating, a net of +49. Given that Hatch won his 2012 Republican primary 66%-34%, Lee’s even stronger favorability rating indicates that Lee is likely in a very strong position among Republican voters.

Senator Lee is broadly popular with all segments of Republican Primary voters. Those who identify as “very conservative” view him favorably 87-4. Voters who identify as “somewhat conservative” view him favorably 75-10. Republican primary voters who identify as moderates (the smallest section of likely Republican primary voters in Utah) also view Lee favorably by a 53-27 ratio.

I agree. Overall, he’s one to keep viable.

My biggest personal goal right now is to do anything and everything I can to make sure that Johnny Isakson here in Georgia doesn’t get past the Republican Primary for 2016.

"But Lee’s optimistic limited government constitutional conservatism doesn’t sit well with an establishment always ready to grow government through “compromising to get things done.” The same forces that vowed to “crush” Tea Party movement-backed candidates in the 2014 midterms are ready to stab Lee in the back and have been quietly trying to organize opposition to his re-nomination.

POLITICO recently reported business leaders, and other establishment figures in Lee’s home state, like billionaire Jon Huntsman Sr., an influential bank CEO and a former Utah GOP party chairman are considering recruiting and backing a challenger to the constitutional conservative incumbent.

” business leaders, and other establishment figures in Lee’s home state, like billionaire Jon Huntsman Sr., an influential bank CEO and a former Utah GOP party chairman are considering recruiting and backing a challenger...”

Jon Huntsman Sr. is such a phony. Glen Beck had him painted as a saint. He’s as bad as his son Huntsman Jr.

With all their money, the Huntsman’s could make it hard for Lee.

If Ted Cruz wins the White House, the GOPe would rediscover that the Constitution provides for a balance of power between the branches, and fight him on everything. They are progressive, pro-government leftists who are on the same side as Obama and the marxists, and only differ on a few particulars. Even when they differ with the marxists, they give in and go along (witness Obamacare.) The sooner we part with such Quislings, the better.
