North Korea goes completely offline: Report
CNBC ^ | 12-22-14 | Everett Rosenfeld

North Korea is having major Internet problems, just days after President Barack Obama promised a proportional response to the devastating hacks against Sony.

The country, which the FBI accused last week of the cyberattack, is suffering a total Internet outage that experts at DYN Research said is out of the ordinary, as first reported by North Korea Tech. According to the research firm, North Korea's Internet connectivity grew steadily worse beginning Sunday night, and then went completely offline Monday morning.

"I haven't seen such a steady beat of routing instability and outages in KP before," Doug Madory, director of Internet analysis at DYN Research, told North Korea Tech. "Usually there are isolated blips, not continuous connectivity problems. I wouldn't be surprised if they are absorbing some sort of attack presently."

The NORKS have nothing "critical" on their "internet".

Nothing.

All critical comms are over closed networks and we won't likely know whether this attack is hitting those networks.

But it's likely it is.

And that's a risky move. They MAY believe a military attack is imminent and do something stupid.

But that's what AEGIS is for, right?

Is he talking about North Korea or Comcast?

IF this is evidence of retaliation by the US government on behalf of Sony Corporation, then what is going to happen to the central position that the US has enjoyed until now? Obama might see this as a “proportional response”, but you can bet the rest of the world doesn’t see it that way.

North Korea likely has a very small number of connections to the internet. Take out 1 or 2 switches and they go down. The US has thousands. We are vulnerable but not the internet as a whole.

That’s pretty much a certainty. Fear reigns in that place...big time....you do something wrong, even if you aren’t to blame, you die and three generations of your family.

I see the UN put N.Korea back on the list. China objectd but were ignored. No representation from N. Korea at this meeting.

This is very likely a Federal response. I have seen lots of things that indicate to me a full-on cyberwar is underway.

We proles will be informed of 2% of it.

The fact our power systems are up and running tells me someone got serious about cyberwar.
