The teenage son of Mayor Rahm Emanuel was the victim of a robbery outside the mayors Lakeview home Friday night, a spokesperson from the mayors office confirms. Police were called to the 4200 block of North Hermitage at 10:05 p.m. Friday for a report of a robbery on the street where there would normally already be a police presence. Emanuels 17-year-old son went out to make a phone call when he was jumped by two men who stole the teens cell phone. A police report obtained by the Chicago Tribune says that he was put in a chokehold by one of the suspects and punched in the face by the other. Emanuel reportedly suffered a fat lip and chipped tooth. Emanuels spokesperson Kelley Quinn released a statement saying, Yesterday evening Mayor Emanuels son Zach was assaulted in a robbery during which his phone was stolen. He sustained injuries that required medical treatment, but was able to join the family for a long planned trip. The Mayors focus is on his sons well-being, and as parents, he and Amy ask that the media respect their familys privacy at this time. Police officers are assigned to the mayors home front and back 24 hours a day. There are also cameras at both ends of the block. Dan Hill lives on the block. Hill says hes seen an increased police presence on the block Saturday. Theres been at least one more paddy wagon out here this morning and, just a couple unmarked cars up and down the street, Hill said. Usually theres just two, one in front and one in the back. Police say no weapon was used. The suspects remain at large.
If you check out the cop blogs in Chicago, the speculation is that the whole incident smells bad (apparently the kid’s cell phone was wiped right after it happened), and one line of speculation is exactly what you’ve proposed - the lad tried to stiff his suppliers, probably in trying to pick up some weed.
Do realize that Emanuel was consigliere for two of the masters at covering up illicit behavior, so it’s unlikely anything will ever come of this little incident.
Hmmmmmmmm. Who can’t you call from inside your house?

What? Do they not get service in their house? Something seems strange here.
Not just the father. The whole damned family is nuts. Remember Uncle Zeke, the one who thinks everyone should be off’d at 75?
