Friday, during his end of the year news conference, President Obama admonished Sony Pictures for cancelling its Christmas Day release of “The Interview.” He went on to say that if the company had called him, he would have told them to stick by the movie. Sony responded later that same day saying they did in fact reach out to the White House:

...Obama's assert[ed] that the Caterpillar CEO had promised him he would rehire some of the laid-off workers if Congress approves a sweeping stimulus bill. The company has struggled with lower demand amid the global economic downturn.

The severity and swiftness of the recession, Owens said, makes adding jobs back quickly unrealistic.

- An adviser worked it out with Sony so Obama could claim ignorance later if necessary. They cancel the movie so Obama doesn't have to ask them or own it publicly.

An American company and one of the cornerstone’s of our culture has been under a devastating attack by a foreign country for nearly a month. Apparently, the president believes it’s Sony’s job to fight the North Koreans, and not his.

When a foreign power engages in an act of sabotage against an American company, and threatens to bomb movie theaters across the country, it is the White House, and not the company, that should be proactive in this situation.
