Eric Holder Announces Expanded Protections for Transgender Employees

Attorney General Eric Holder announced expanded protection for transgender government employees Thursday, allowing the Justice Department to file claims against employers accused of discriminating based on gender identity.

The expanded protections come from Holder's clarified interpretation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits workplace discrimination due to racial, gender or religious bias. Holder will no longer maintain the previously established position that "Title VII's prohibition against discrimination based on sex does not encompass gender identity per se."

"This important shift will ensure that the protections of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 are extended to those who suffer discrimination based on gender identity, including transgender status," wrote Holder.

"This will help to foster fair and consistent treatment for all claimants. And it reaffirms the Justice Department's commitment to protecting the civil rights of all Americans."

Holder noted the Congress responsible for the Civil Rights Act "may not have had [transgender] claims in mind when it enacted Title VII," however, "the Supreme Court has made clear that Title VII must be interpreted according to its plain text."

"The decision by Attorney General Holder will go a long way toward advancing equality for the transgender community," praised Sarah Warbelow, legal director for the Human Rights Campaign. In addition to various civil rights causes, the Human Rights Campaign provides legal assistace for transgender employees seeking action against discriminatory employers.

"Transgender people continue to face some of the highest levels of discrimination in the workplace. We are thrilled to see the Department of Justice take this important step."

An out of control administration that views the role of a central government to spend more time on perversion than on anything that is beneficial to America.

These droolers have a one track mind: reduce this nation to as pitiful state as possible.

Even after the Civil War,slavery was not prohibited until there was a constitutional amendment. How inconvenient, that the president could not just re-interpret what words mean and free the slaves with an executive order.

While not a fan of bigotry, if these new “protections” are like past ones handed down from government, they will be more examples of “Guilty until proven innocent” thinking.

Slavery was on its way to dying even without government involvement. It was fast becoming economically unfeasible to rely on manual labor in the face of growing industry.

I’m more convinced than ever that 0bama and his minions are deep-cover KGB moles. He probably gets his orders from Vlad every day, and has to report back to the Lubyanka every time he takes a crap.

discriminating based on gender identity.????

Seems the Tranny would have to prove that by exposing their privates.

Otherwise, the BUTCH lesbian is assumed to be a male by the way they dress, just as they want to be, and their work ethics are based on that. So if they can't preform as the MALE they want to be and are Fired or whatever, THAT'S DISCRIMMINATION based on Gender Identity?

Reverse all this for the HOMO male dressed as a woman, same theory applies.

What am I missing? How do the lesbians and homos PROVE they were discriminated against based on Gender Identity?

Seems everything is Racist, everything is discrimination........that's the screwy victims law.

Happy days, I’ll break out my short skirt, bra, fishnet hose, and high heels. Then off to work I’ll go never fearing being fired.

Why is thinking you’re the wrong gender any different than thinking you are Napoleon or a penguin?

Ah, you too must have seen first hand a "transgendered" employee disrupt an entire company? I have.

In my last job, some idiot hired on one of the most loathsome characters I have ever met. He was grossly obese, literally wore his food, smelled rotten, etc.

The automation team told me that his technical and coding skills matched his loathsomeness as an individual. He was very disruptive, and to top it off, decided to become a woman one day. Our HR department was sent on a wild scramble, paid thousands of dollars to retrofit the bathrooms so the Women would feel more private inside the stalls.

After 6 months of this, the company laid off the entire automation team which included some great employees. In my opinion, the company laid off the team so as to not target the disruptive POS who caused all of the trouble out of fear of lawsuits.

We live in the golden age of the pervert.

Of course, even though he is reinterpreting the Civil Rights Act as including all transgenders..... the Atty General’s office will only enforce it if transgender’s “of color” are discriminated against.

White transgenders can fend for themselves. The CRA wasn’t for them anyways.

“How inconvenient, that the president could not just re-interpret what words mean and free the slaves with an executive order.”

I actually had a lib, who was defending Obama’s amnesty plan, try to use the “emancipation proclamation” as an example of an executive order that made new law.

Of course, I pointed out to him that he didn’t know what that proclamation did, because it didn’t do what he alleged it had. Then he ran off and never responded.
