The State Department's Rose Gottemoeller, under secretary for arms control and international security, spoke at the Brookings Institution Thursday where she reaffirmed the United States' "unassailable" commitment to putting the nuclear weapons genie back in the bottle. Gottemoeller told the attendees at the Arms Control and Non-Proliferation Initiative-sponsored event that "the U.S. commitment to achieving the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons is unassailable." She went on to note that the nation's stockpile of active weapons is down 85 percent from maximum cold war levels, falling to 4,804 in 2013 from a high of 31,255. But, she said, "We still have more work to do."

we are ripe for take over.....its planned...
None of this results in safety or security...just saying.
Said the Devil in response to the question "How is your destruction of humanity coming along?"
In the end tho its really about what the American people will tolerate. There will be no take over unless we decide to capitulate like the gutless evil cockroaches that inhabit DC. Its hard to imagine how they get sent back term after term...really it is.
4,804? Wow - can Obama get rid of that many in only 2 years?
Barry’s commies are the roosters in this chicken coop now. They’ve been waiting for this day since the police hosed them down after they crawled out of the mud at Woodstock.
I'm for reducing that number even more -
---- use five or six on ISIS, Taliban, Mecca, etc. and cure the problem forever! (And save a hell of a lot of American lives and dollars in the process!)
As long as we are using mythical allegory, perhaps Pandora's Box would be more appropriate.
Rose Gottemoeller is an idiot if she really believes that the US is the key "to putting the nuclear weapons genie back in the bottle".
The lady in question - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rose_Gottemoeller
“When they say, “Peace and security,” then sudden destruction comes on them, like labor pains come on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. “ 1 Thessalonians 5:3
“The mighty men of Babylon have forborn to fight, they have remained in their holds: their might hath failed; they became as women: they have burned her dwellingplaces; her bars are broken.” Jeremiah 51:30
Nonsense.
With 5,000 nuclear weapons we would only be able to blow up the planet like, what, 10x over? Clearly inadequate.
great... I am not feeling safer...
Hopefully that is not the case. It depends on how they are defining "active weapons". If in inactive weapon is just one without any targeting data loaded into it ( which would only take few minutes to load targeting data into it ), then that is better than an inactive weapon being one that has been taken out of the silos. But knowing this POS, I fear the latter.
It is not the nukes we have that worry me. It is the ones pointed at us.
Does that include the hidden ones?
With only 4.4% of the word population and surrounded by billions of people who hate our guts, or want our stuff, or both, any idea that we can protect ourselves and preserve the nation without nuclear weapons is nothing but a liberal bed-wetter fantasy.
He will undoubtedly give them to Iran as a symbol of good will when he leaves office. Maybe a couple to Cuba.
