The Empire Strikes Back: Jeff Sessions out as Budget Committee Chair
Red State ^ | December 18th, 2014 | streiff

Posted on 12/19/2014 6:52:10 AM PST by xzins

Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions is out as chair of the Senate Budget Committee.

**"Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) is giving up his bid to become the next Budget Committee chairman — deferring to Sen. Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) and eliminating the only competitive chairmanship battle in the incoming GOP Senate majority.

"Sessions has been the panel’s top Republican for the past four years but Enzi technically retains seniority over the Alabaman on the committee and said several weeks ago that he would challenge Sessions for the chairmanship."**

This is going to portrayed as a simple matter of seniority. It isn’t. That story has the same veracity and, indeed, the same source as the story that Senator Ted Cruz’s opposition to Obama’s immigration power grab led to the approval of stalled Obama nominees: Mitch McConnell.

Sessions has been serving as the top Republican on the committee for the past four years and was in line to take the chairmanship after the GOP won control of the Senate this month.

**"But since then, Sessions has undercut party leaders with his strident opposition to President Obama’s immigration action, even raising the specter of another fiscal showdown that resembles previous confrontations with the White House. Party leaders are eager to fight back against the president, but in a more measured way in line with their desire to show that they are up to the task of governing.

That has provided an opening for Enzi, whose name-out-of-a-hat seniority gives him the standing to challenge Sessions and who is pitching himself as a less-confrontational alternative.

Conservative activists say GOP leaders are backing Sen. Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) for the chairmanship because he would be a more reliable party man.

Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and other members of his team have publicly stayed out of the contest, but conservative activists nevertheless say they are quietly backing Enzi because he would be a more reliable party man.

Gaston Mooney — who served as an aide to former senator Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), who often clashed with McConnell’s leadership team — wrote in an article last week in Conservative Review: “If Sessions loses the chair of the budget committee, it is only under the orders and direction of McConnell.”"**

While Mike Enzi has a solid voting record he is a reliable tool of the Senate leadership. The hard hitting analysis that Jeff Sessions brought to the Budget Committee will now become the watered-down pap Mitch McConnell wants.

I predict this is all in anticipation by Boehner and McConnell of jamming amnesty down our throats by summer.

I saw this as a final confirmation that these two sell-outs were "all in" for the Establishment Amnesty....no holds barred.

Such a shame....Sen Sessions is as good as they come. A fine defender of our nation's founding principles.

RINOs of a feather stick together. No amount of Sessions lobbying would have moved a single one of all the multiple McConnell controlled, GOPe RINOs on the Budget Committee. I'm certain Sessions canvassed each one and McConnell's puppeteer hand up their backsides made certain he learned about how each one would vote.

No amount of wishful whining on Sessions part would have changed that. The RINOs would have just said Sessions was a crybaby, as they always do. Sessions made certain we knew this was coming for some time. He didn't quietly slink off. Only low info voters, the terminally stupid and those not paying any attention, would imagine that.

Maybe we should call the RINO party what they really are -- the "lying party" because that is what they do all the time. It is the only reason they seem to perform better at this point. I seem to recall a very famous republican's words about fooling some of the people. The "lying-stupid party" should pay attention to words of their first president.

(You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time. Abraham Lincoln)

I’m going to wait awhile before saying, “I just as well voted democRAT given the outcome.”

I've been waiting since 2000...how long is the lag time before we know for sure?

All those threads we had some FReepers assuring us that McConnell would never seek retribution against conservatives, because we could hold his feet to the fire or something.

That schtick has gotten as old and wore out as "It's Bush's fault!" or "You're racist!"

Party leaders are eager to fight back against the president,

...

I wholeheartedly, absolutely, positively, one hundred percent disagree.

“If Sessions loses the chair of the budget committee, it is only under the orders and direction of McConnell.”"**

Of that I have no doubt. Enzi only announced he was seeking the Chairmanship after Sessions said as Chairman of the Budget Committee he had too with which to block the amnesty order.

How many buildings in kentucky does McConnell and Chao have named after them. So McConnell is posturing that the GOPe or better known as the GOP arm of Obama Administration will do nothing. Gee MCConnell must be the Sgt Schultz of Hogan’s Heroes “I see nuthing” Lets just change McConnell name to NoNuts. Lets face it he has a backbobe like a Golfclub and Obama has given him two golfballs in a sack so at least he may be considered a man otherwise McConnell has no backbone nor any nuts.

When I watched McConnell say on TV a few weeks ago, the chairmanship was between Enzi and Sessions, he had nothing to do with it, I wanted to slap the glasses off of his turtle face.

I have no trouble visualizing him as a sadistic prison warden.

Rush L said a while back to watch what happens to Sessions.
If he gets booted, it will be due to the GOPe (McSurrender) booting him because Sessions opposed Obama.

So McSurrender, the RINO turncoat, replaces Sessions with a rubber stamp person that will not oppose Obama/Dems.

Truly, until the GOPe is purged from the Repub Party, we continue to have a One Party Police State.

And the GOP leadership will continue to destroy their own Party via joining the Dems in making the Repub Base, the enemy.

The Evil Party and the Stupid Party are now joined at the hip.

Not gonna happen. At this point, it's fine for us to continue associating with the R's, but that just proves the stupid party part. I won't have anything to do with them anymore. I held my nose one more time this last election, and voted for 2 R's. One lost, because he was too much of a pansy to frame his opponent as the America hating leftist he is, and the 2nd won, beat out the D incumbent, and then IMMEDIATELY surrendered by stating that impeachment and gubmint shutdown were both off the table. Continuing to support the R's at this point is dumbassery at best, and traitorous at worst.

Because Enzi has seniority and the system is run on seniority. He knows he can’t win, that he isn’t a favorite.

On the other hand, I do assume that he will not shut up.
