Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin on Wednesday dropped his plan to enact a single-payer health care system in his state a plan that had won praise from liberals but never really got much past the framework stage. This is not the right time for enacting single payer, Shumlin said in a statement, citing the big tax increases that would be required to pay for it.

There is never a right time for it.
Big Tax increase? What kind of excuss is that for a liberal? Just borrow the money!
He ran out of “other peoples’ money”. That, and he values his political hide.
Liberal VT has one of the nations highest rates of legal gun ownership in this very white (98%) state. Bunch of liberal rednecks who elect socialists to the US Senate
Don’t worry, though, nothing could possibly go wrong if the US adopts single payer since it will be run by experts.
I thought it was the NY transplants who turned VT Socialist Red.
It is awfully odd that Vermont is the most gun-friendly state in the country, isn't it?
Mainly because VT is one of only four "Unrestricted" states for licensing. Not 'Shall' issue. Not 'May' issue. Unrestricted. Plus, they were the first.

“Single Payer! hooraaaay! Single Payer! Free stuff for everyone...”
“Um... excuse me sir...”
“What? We are celebrating!”
“Um sir... in order pay for this we will have to ....”
“Oh... maybe now is just not the right time.”
Dummasses. I want a brand new Ferrari. Aint gonna happen.
I guess the electrical increases + this single payer crap is too much.
“Coming Soon to a Utility Bill Near You?
The New York Times today has a long news story (Energy Bills Send Shivers in New England) about soaring utility bills in the Northeast, where many people are seeing 100 percent increases in their energy costs over just a few months ago:
For October, [John York] had paid $376. For November, with virtually no change in his volume of work and without having turned up the thermostat in his two-room shop, his bill came to $788, a staggering increase of 110 percent. This is insane, he said, shaking his head. We cant go on like this.

I suppose the fact that it was projected to cost double the entire current state budget had a little something to do with it.
A shame really. I was really hoping they would do it and go broke within a couple of years. A relatively painless lesson for all the rest of us. If someone like California tries it we’re in for some major pain.
LIB policies always result in negative outcomes. Name one that hasn’t. LIBs are mentally impaired (especially their logic center).
Regular Logic - If you keep on doing the same things you’ve always done and expect a different result, you’re irrational.
Lib Logic - If you keep on doing the same things you’ve always done, and don’t get a different result, it’s only because you don’t have the smartest/best credentialed/most ideologically pure people doing them yet.
I guess he figured that he just couldn’t get enough government money to fund all this..
We have to wait until Uncle "Sugardaddy" Sam is ready to foot the bill as per the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.( Where is Vermonts' Ted Kennedy when you need him.)
I agree that NY transplants have turned VT red. Though it was somewhat liberal before they migrated. Massachusetts ones turned NH into tilting liberal in what was once one of the most conservative states
In liberal states with a large rural population, Democrats are forced to tone down (or even abandon) their anti-gun rhetoric, just as Democrats with large working class/union constituencies (now fading) have to tone down their social radicalism. We don't hear as much about gun control from Harry Reid as from other liberal luminaries for the same reason (i.e. Nevada may be liberal on most social issues, but not on guns).
