I do not like mystery meats-I’d starve if that was all I could get-fortunately, beef is still sort of affordable around here because there are only small quantities produced for area butcher shops. I do eat more tofu than I did when beef was cheaper-it is a good source of protein-12 grams per 6 oz serving-only 4 grams of carbs, 4 grams fat and 0 cholesterol-and it is certainly cheap...
A few years ago in the West, one rancher was robbed by his neighbors through the local government. Have fun. Enjoy the slide.
Odd but I like the taste of Oscar Mayer Bologna better than the expensive deli cuts. Fried Bologna...yum.
There are rumors that “organic” (grass-fed) beef is selling before it leaves the range for over $3 a pound on the hoof.
You can get local grass-fed/free range T-bone steaks around here for $6.99 per lb most of the time-but, as you say, no sides-if we have enough work-and money-this next year, my employer and I are going in together to buy a whole cow, slaughtered and packaged.
When supplies drop, prices around the world go up, assuming demand is unchanged. Classic supply and demand.
US crop prices are affected by weather and such in other countries, too.
I see shrimp going for less than hamburger sometimes. Ive been eating a lot more pork lately. Aside from bacon, its pretty reasonable. Boneless loin roast is still available for under 2 bucks a pound. Also the price of beef is making lamb relatively more affordable. Its gotten so you can buy 1/4 pound burger at Carls Jr. cheaper than you can make one yourself. The best deal Ive found is 4 lbs of pretty good preformed quarter pound burgers for 10 bucks at discount grocery chain.
I kill my own so only cost is for the bullet.
$4.69 lb. Giant Eagle Market....western Pa.
According to DollarTimes.com $1.37 from 1950 is the same as $13.53 today. So that 3lbs for 1.37 would be 3lbs for $13.53, or $4.51 per pound.
Interesting.
I remember those 15 cent burgers from McDonalds.
I think back then they had some beef in them, LOL.
We’re not supposed to eat beef. Only our betters can.
Uuuggghgghhh my friends, please don’t buy cheap clearance beef if you plan on eating it!!!!!! Omg, the animals will have been so sick and unhealthy. Eating them is like eating rotting foul disgusting substance that will not add to your health at all. Eat nourishing or Prepare for disease.
I have found a farm that, if you buy enough, sells grass fed beef from healthy roaming cattle at nearly this price you’re paying for sick antibiotic and hormone filled, lying in crowded barns of filth beef. My family is eating beef that is rich in omega 3s from their healthy diet of grasses, clovers, etc. No grains. It tastes good and is literally good for us.
Source what LITERALLY BECOMES YOUR BODY, people. Get some beef from healthy animals and just eat less of it if price is an issue. I love you guys and you are making a big mistake. Take a look at feedlot animals.
You are doing it right! Wish I could live like you! Dang, no deer on the beach!
Calm please. Clearance priced beef is not bad beef, it is beef that is approaching its “best by” date. You can find organic grass fed beef with a clearance price on it.
(should the time come when you're hungry enough, you'll be grateful for the feral cats in the neighborhood)
Just source it. I prefer usa grass fed beef. NZ is also good. If it’s organic grass fed on clearance I’ll buy it too! But I assumed people were talking about those cheap plastic tubes of the worst of the worst.
Nope, I’m not liberal by any means. While I want my fellow freepers to eat anything they want, I just want them to think facts about how the protein sources they choose to build their bodies with might point toward health or chronic inflammation / illness. It isn’t liberal, just smart, to consume clean food.
Holy cow. That’s expensive.
