We don’t have a Walmart and the closest one hasn’t reduced their meats in years so we haven’t had ground beef forever until. In September, I purposefully stopped at an out of town Walmart and bought all the reduced packages they had. Stopped again last week but there was none. It’s bad when ground beef costs too much. For a while, there were sales on boneless beef ribs so I’d cook them like steak. Not anywhere close to kobe but better than nothing.
How does soylent green grill?
Agenda 21 wants you to stop eating cows because their flatulence is destroying the planet.
I paid $5.30/lb for ground sirloin yesterday.
There is no reason for the price skyrocketing prices. Three or four years ago, ranchers had to sell off their stock due to the drought but they should have built up their herds by now. During the huge sell off, prices should have dropped but they didn’t. Someone had to have been manipulating the price. The manipulaters saw people would pay higher prices so they’re still jacking prices up. It’s all about greed but they’re at the tipping point. The people can’t afford it so it’ll go unsold.
I suspect the good beef is being shipped to China and Japan where the price is much higher.
Lowest cattle population since 1958.
Those who believe that methane from cows causes global warming are happy.
Thank the corn trusts for this. Drink the alcohol; don’t burn it.
Sorry to make you feel worse but in the late 1950s I was able to buy ground beef on sale for 25-cents/lb. High quality too. But it's important to remember that at the same time I was supporting a family of three on $80/week.
Oh yes. My Dad would get his bologna thick sliced at the deli. Made the employees crazy because they would have to reset the slicer. Thin slices in the fry pan or on the grill just won’t do.
Also needed hard rolls to soak up the fat. Standard white bread hamburger buns would fall apart.
Now I’m hungry for fried or grilled bologna sandwiches. :)
Evil profit taking corporations are the cause silly.
We get something similar with orange juice. Every time the temperature in Florida drops below 40 degrees, the price of orange juice skyrockets. Meanwhile, any frostbitten oranges can still be squeezed into orange juice. Plus nowadays, much of our orange juice comes from Brazil. How would the weather in Florid affect the orange crop in other countries?
Mom used to buy us 15 hamburgers for a dollar on Thursdays in the early 50's. I am not sure but I think it was a Dairy Queen.
In 1956 I was in San Francisco where there were several $1.09 steak houses. New York cut steak from an open flame grill served with a small salad, baked potato and a sour dough roll. Those were the days. All you could eat Prime rib was $2.49 at The House of Prime Ribs.
Is that ever true-if I lived in the city, I would not be able to afford that wonderful growth hormone laced, fed god-knows-what confined in a feedlot beef, much less that drug free grass fed stuff I get at the butcher shop here...
Is that more than soylent green?
Ranchers sold out most of their herds about two years ago due to drought. Cows are normally sold for consumption at two years so you should see a lot of new beef coming onto the market this next year and the price should moderate.
The prices for feed that had to be shipped in were unbelievable. People were giving horses away in order to get rid of the feed cost.
Now hay round bales are going for 50-65 per. Two years ago the price was 235 or a bit higher.
$4.20 Per Pound:
How much is that in Rubles?
You need a Bloomberg terminal to constantly recalculate as the Ruble tanks.
As of this second 1,100,012,120,011,120,012,999,100,100 rubles.
My pastured, local farm raised beef averages about $7/lb. The farmer doesn’t sell sides, only packages through a CSA. Suddenly it doesn’t seem like a luxury purchase any more.
