Marquette's John McAdams suspended after criticizing TA on gay marriage discussion

John McAdams, a Marquette University associate professor, says he is being "treated like a potential terrorist" after being suspended with pay and banned from campus while the university investigates his conduct, presumably because he publicly criticized a teaching assistant for not allowing discussion of gay marriage in an ethics class.

A student had objected to the teaching assistant's handling of the class discussion weeks ago and, after class, recorded his conversation with her. The teaching assistant told the student that "some opinions are not appropriate, such as racist opinions, sexist opinions." She suggested if someone in the class were homosexual, they could be offended if another student challenged gay marriage.

The student who disagreed told her it was his right as an American citizen to make arguments against gay marriage, to which teaching assistant Cheryl Abbate replied: "You don't have a right in this class to make homophobic comments."

So.. the TA was OK for being a homo-promoter, but criticizing it is wrong

Depends. Is Marquette a public or private school?

And there it is folks. The homosexual agenda is not about equality. It is about being superior and stifling ALL speech that they may find offensive or contrary to their goals.

How about, if some student was NOT homosexual, they might be offended by discussions promoting gay “marriage” or whatever.

Seemingly only the freaks are entitled to “be offended” by anything these days.

It is clear: Mamas, don’t send your babies to Marquette; it is a waste of money to pay big bucks for a fake Catholic education. Go to a public school and save (some of) your money.

I think it is a private Catholic (Jesuit) university.

This is almost beyond belief. A student is told to shut up for expressing the SAME view on gay marriage that Barack Obama expressed in 2008, and a professor is suspended for defending the student!

Marquette should close its doors; it’s a fraud.

Ah yes, liberty as defined by liberals means never having to defend your nasty habits in an ethics class.

“Marquette University is a private, coeducational, Jesuit, Roman Catholic university located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin”

That private distinction has never stopped the government from exerting authority over any school that receives government money in any fashion. Which is why Hillsdale refuses government money.

I’m sure that in this case the powers that be suddenly won’t think that they have the right to interfere in a private school, unlike when they leaned on Bob Jones University for its dating policy a few years ago. BJU is also a private, religious university but unlike Marquette it’s decidedly non-progressive and therefore deserving of government regulation.

Marquette is a Roman Catholic University. One wonders if they realize that the official teaching of the Papacy is that homosexual relations are sin and homosexual marriage is illegitimate. At what point is a Roman Catholic school no longer Roman Catholic?
