OKLAHOMA CITY - An Oklahoma County Sheriff's Deputy is recovering after she was attacked Monday morning by a pit bull outside a NW Oklahoma City car repair shop. Sheriff John Whetsel said 21-year-Oklahoma County Sheriff's Department veteran Susan Perkins was at Portillo's Auto Shop to serve a no-contact order to an employee. Whetsel said a blue nose pit bull by the name of 'Big Head' attacked the deputy after she knocked on the front door of the business.

Whetsel said Perkins suffered deep bite wounds to both of her legs, before she pulled a handgun and shot and killed the dog.

London Portillo is the son of the shop's owner. He said the deputy should have paid attention to several 'Beware of Dog' signs that line the property. “She should have seen the signs. I know she was doing her job. She probably should have called the shop first.”

Does this auto shop not have any customers?

Was the dog trained specifically to attack cops?

“She should have seen the signs. I know she was doing her job. She probably should have called the shop first.”

Good luck with that line. You should get a lawyer, London.

She was right to do this. You can own a dog, even a mean dog, but if you allow easy access to your home, only to have a dangerous, unstoppable dog start eating your limbs, you have the right to protect your life. I’ve read about many examples with police wrongfully shooting family dogs that did not pose any threat.

This dog did, and she has the scars to prove it. If this officer tried to phone this home owner before, and the calls remained ignored, this will support her case. It has nothing to do with the breed of the animal in this instance. Chows can be a wild, nasty enemy to deal with, like a giant racoon.

The dog was chained, but supposedly she did not see him.

Thank God the hideous beast did not kill her.

Please, fellow Freepers, think twice before ever owning such an animal. :-(

Per what I read in this particular story, sounds like it was necessary for survival.

No wonder “dogs” get shot by cops.

It was a dog this time. Lady cop has some failing grades on situational awareness. Next time it may not be a dog. It may be an angry 350 pound guy selling single Swishers with an attitude and a gun, standing at her six o’clock. Reading the posted signs might be a clue to do a visual inventory of your surroundings. Just because you are a cop does not mean you are not a stranger.

Article failed to include any details. How was this dog able to get to the officer? Was it inside a fenced area that the officer was able to get into, or did someone open the door and let it out when the officer knocked?

Pit bulls are often sweethearts less raised by animals.

Yeah, right. Like chows are brought in to protect businesses at night. hahahahahaha
They are unpredictable and can and will bite, but it’s other breeds that protect businesses. LIKE PIT BULLS.

Now THEY can be mean!

Yeah, I know, like the vicious chihuahua, or the Labradors that get shot when police invade their home and property or even the stray, called over by the cop to be shot dead. Wagging their tails, getting shot.
THIS time is understandable. Virtually no others are.

Disturing story out of Flour Bluff, Texas (surburb of Corpus Christi) last night

A 64 year old woman was found dead in her back yard last night. She fostered strays for a local animal care organization and took in strays she found on the street. Six of what appeared to be pit bulls were taken away by animal control. One was bloody, and it appeared they had been feeding on her body.
