Philadelphia Police Officer Shoots Suspect in Head During Deadly Struggle
NBC Philly ^ | 12-15-14 | Dan Stamm

The family of a man shot in the head and killed by a Philadelphia police officer sought answers in the hours after the deadly incident during a traffic stop in the city’s Mayfair section.

The deadly gunshot rang out around 2:45 a.m. along the 6600 block of Frankford Avenue after police said the suspect reached for a loaded handgun — stolen last year — in his rental car.

"I would like to know why the police, law enforcement, has the right to kill instead of disabling," the victim's mother Tanya Dickerson said. "It has to stop, this is enough already."

Dickerson later identified her son Brandon Tate-Brown as gunshot victim.

Dickerson said that her son served five years in prison for aggravated assault stemming from a 2007 beating where he was charged with attempted murder. She said that since his release from prison, Tate-Brown was trying to get his life back on track — working at a rental car place — being a "good guy."

Wow, unintelligible! What a hot mess he is! But I guess he’s innocent because he sent nice, funny messages on FB to some, therefore this cannot be true.
Forget the message that said (i think) that he passed out in his car somewhere because of whiskey. ok.

No, you missed the part of him being a good boy! Just turning his life around!

Now his family will stiff the landlord while slowwwwly clearing his stuff out of his apartment.

I know she’s dying inside. I lost a son once too. There’s nothing worse, imo, than losing your child. But I never blamed anyone but him (speeding, no helmet)

But she’s just being stupid, blaming anyone but her son.

The question that should be asked is was Brandon Tate-Brown fit to be living. Should such a dangerous individual be permitted to live on the streets with good law abiding citizens. He more or less proved he is unfit.

That seems to be true of his alleged mother who seems to condone his unfitness.

Carson had the same take on police shooting thugs as the woman in the article has, that they should shoot to wound.

He too has watched too many cowboy movies.

A spreader load is sold by Orvis. The shot inside the shell is not round like regular shot. It’s fed thru a press and squashed into sort of a hockey puck shape. The result is quite predictable. No range and complete scatter right out of the barrel. I’m not kidding either, you will hit everything floor to ceiling at the far end of a room 20’ long. The load will not go thru the wall and hurt anyone in any adjoining living space. IOW, you won’t accidentally shoot your kids in the next room with handgun loads going thru the wall.

One time I was taking (civilian) shotgun training, and I mistakenly kept my "rifled slug" barrel on the shotgun when using buckshot. The rifling caused the shot pattern to resemble a large doughnut.

As a generality, I disagree. Their modes of transportation when venturing very far place them in peril. They most often ruin their own neighborhoods and victimize their own neighbors. It's usually black on black crime. They know that if they rob or assault their own, they are far less likely to get caught. The police are far less motivated to investigate. Witnesses are far less likely to say something. Prosecutors are bogged down with a decade of cases to prosecute, so they will most likely not be brought to trial.

Now, if the thug has a girlfriend with a Section 8 apartment in a suburban area, it may be a different story. He can use the apartment as a base from which he can go out and case likely places. If he does something that the police will want to find him for, a quick run gets him back to safety.

Now you jump the county line into Montgomery or Bucks County and so much as jaywalk or go five miles over the speed limit you are in deep trouble. The suburban prosecutors are an entirely different bunch. Nothing gets a plea bargain just to keep it off the docket.

Plus the chances of finding armed homeowners and CCW holders might be a tad discouraging.

My Mom lives right there... this neighborhood was nice up until a few years ago. I’m there twice a week and I watched it become yet another thug paradise.

I would like to know why the thug has the right to attack the police in the first place??

"There is no such thing as “shoot to kill” versus “shoot to injure.”

Exactly right. If it is a life threatening situation - you end the threat as rapidly, completely, and assuredly as possible.

These feral morons are so ignorant. The perp was a felon with a loaded gun. What was the cop supposed to do...hug him and sing kumbaya? Yea...he was a “good boy”...a dead one now.
