Philadelphia Police Officer Shoots Suspect in Head During Deadly Struggle
NBC Philly ^ | 12-15-14 | Dan Stamm

The family of a man shot in the head and killed by a Philadelphia police officer sought answers in the hours after the deadly incident during a traffic stop in the city’s Mayfair section.

The deadly gunshot rang out around 2:45 a.m. along the 6600 block of Frankford Avenue after police said the suspect reached for a loaded handgun — stolen last year — in his rental car.

"I would like to know why the police, law enforcement, has the right to kill instead of disabling," the victim's mother Tanya Dickerson said. "It has to stop, this is enough already."

Dickerson later identified her son Brandon Tate-Brown as gunshot victim.

Dickerson said that her son served five years in prison for aggravated assault stemming from a 2007 beating where he was charged with attempted murder. She said that since his release from prison, Tate-Brown was trying to get his life back on track — working at a rental car place — being a "good guy."

They eventually suck the life out of their own ‘hoods and have to venture out to more “affluent” White areas to ply their trades of robbery, burglary, theft and mayhem.

As a generality, I disagree. Their modes of transportation when venturing very far place them in peril. They most often ruin their own neighborhoods and victimize their own neighbors. It's usually black on black crime. They know that if they rob or assault their own, they are far less likely to get caught. The police are far less motivated to investigate. Witnesses are far less likely to say something. Prosecutors are bogged down with a decade of cases to prosecute, so they will most likely not be brought to trial.

Now you jump the county line into Montgomery or Bucks County and so much as jaywalk or go five miles over the speed limit you are in deep trouble. The suburban prosecutors are an entirely different bunch. Nothing gets a plea bargain just to keep it off the docket.

These are facts.

Pittsburgh is the nearest big city to me and it’s common knowledge there. Century III mall between Pleasant Hills and West Mifflin is a classic example. Was once the shining jewel of commerce, now you could film a zombie movie there at noon once the urban youts figured out that’s where all the White victims were. Let’s not forget Shadyside, Squirrel Hill and Oakland.

Being Filthadelphia, along with this breathless lead to the second sentence: The deadly gunshot rang out around 2:45 a.m., was all the further anyone needed to read.

With any luck that cesspool will expunge itself and the rest of PA can take its rightful place in the pantheon of solid conservative states.

Why don’t you try shooting at a fast moving ducking, bobbing, weaving target, at night, that has a gun and is also trying to get a bead on you while you scramble to find cover, or;

While you are unholstering while leaning through a car window and your other hand is trying to maintain a grip on the perp’s weapon and keep him from shooting you in the face - instead of shooting at a B-5 silhouette on a well lit range at 15 yards? Then get back to me.

.....was trying to get his life back on track ...

This is all that is important here. Just disregard the part where the gun he had was reported stolen earlier.

"I would like to know why the police, law enforcement, has the right to kill instead of disabling," the victim's mother Tanya Dickerson said. "It has to stop, this is enough already."

Had her son gotten to his stolen gun first, would he have shot to disable the police officer? No, he would not. So why expect anything different?

I have been the first to say that there have been all too many questionable police shootings lately. This isn't one of them.
