Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Monday defended his decision to delay a final vote on the $1.1 trillion spending bill over the weekend, which is helping Senate Democrats confirm nearly two dozen of President Obama's nominations.
Cruzs colleagues have voiced frustration with his actions, suggesting he walked into Senate Majority Leader Harry Reids (D-Nev.) trap.
But Cruz cast he and ally Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) as fighters willing to take on the Obama administration and GOP leaders as too willing to go with the flow. Leadership was angry. They were angry because they did not want to fight this fight now. And Mike Lee and I thought it was important to get a vote now, to get the Democrats on record, and we hoped every Republican on record against executive amnesty, Cruz said in a radio interview with Sean Hannity on Monday afternoon.
Cruz and Lee held up voting on the spending bill by refusing to allow unanimous consent to speed up the vote unless the Senate first cast a vote on whether to stop Obama's executive actions on immigration.
Oh, please! The knives are out for Cruz. The traitorous DIMs and their weakkneed friends in the gop are at it ss usual. Typical WDC criminal politician maneuver. Typical.
The procedural "maneuver" is the cloture vote. Reid needs 48 hours advance notice for calling a cloture vote. They are arguing, falsey, that Cruz gave Reid the time he otherwise would not have had to call for the cloture vote while whipping for the nominees.
The truth is that Reid controls the agenda and could have kept the Senate in session for as long as he needed for cloture. They are playing up the false sense of urgency of letting the Senate recess for Christmas as the reason that Reid was backed into a timing corner until Cruz mucked things up.
Also, the media and Democrats are helping McConnell to demonize Cruz.

Pffft!
What does an “independent” stand for? Someone who runs away?
Just because the GOP has been infiltrated and commandeered by socialists and unprincipled opportunists doesn’t mean the voters have changed.
The people should be incensed, driven to stand and fight in order to take the party back so the conservative base will support it.
It’s the only other game in town, divided...you can only lose...forever.
They were angry because they did not want to fight this fight now.
...
They don’t want to fight it now or ever. The GOP wants bigger government and amnesty.
McConnell’s phone lines need to be burning by us.
We need 59 more Ted Cruz clones in the Senate.
.
You may look at it as running away.
I don’t, as I am very much involved.
And I often let the GOP know, when they call me begging for money, I’ll send the party only Pesos until they close the border, and I’ll only vote for those who are conservatives/Constitutionalists until they return to their platform, at which time, I’ll re-register as Republican.
But until that happens, I’m just giving them heck and those conservatives running for office my money and my vote.
looks like 1994 governors race Bush vs Richards
I’ve never sent them a penny. The RNC can go to hell. I’m talking about the Republican Party that votes.
They can form all the “third parties” they want, there’s no way to get Republican voters to instantly switch to the same conservative alternative, ie. they all lose.
But those same conservative candidates can run under the GOP brand, get elected and honor the platforms crafted by the conservative voters.
Remember, Ted Cruz and Mike Lee ARE TEApublicans...They are the model.
I’m a valuable commodity. I vote conservative Republican; never a Democrat, and give money to the Constitutionalists/conservatives as I am able (including out of state-to help in their primaries, etc.).
The party takes its members for granted, so I’ve opted out of their number...as have a great many others for the same reason (but look how many came out, including the conservatives now registered as “I” and voted in 2014).
McCain didn’t vote against Cruz. Probably because he is up for reelection but he needs to go anyway.
Ted Cruz and Mike Lee are about the only Statesmen and patriots in Office today.
Hopefully things will be better after the next Congress is seated. But there is a lot of work to do.
I’m hoping Cruz keeps leading and fighting, relegating Turtleman to irrelevancy.
I stand with Ted
When you’re doing the right thing, the strength of conviction empowers you. We just need to continue encouraging him and letting him know he has support from the People.
We have tons of work. We’re on the Titanic. God willing, this one won’t sink.
This country has not seen a man like Cruz for a mighty long time. If we are lucky he will help lead us away from this growing disaster we find ourselves in.
Texas elected Cruz because he DID stand up against the worst of the Texas GOPe and we knew he would stand up against the forces that are against our liberty, the National Congressional GOPe, the out of control dems and this anti-American President.
Didn’t you forget that Cow from Alaska? Oh, yeah, MurCOWski...
That's if we want to take out an entrenched incumbent rino.If we are serious we should have started yesterday.IT will take a nationalization of each and every one of these races if we plan to truly unseat an entrenched rino. Killing off a dug in RIno is never easy but it is doable,Palin, Cruz other and and will help. Just sayin'''
I disagree with Cruz on this point.
THEY DO NOT WANT TO FIGHT THIS FIGHT EVER!
