A report into the botched execution of Clayton Lockett has revealed new grisly details of the moments leading up to his agonizing death.

According to the document, a doctor tried to insert an intravenous line into his groin in a frantic attempt to save him, but hit and burst an artery instead.

It caused blood to splatter over the doctor's jacket before the execution was officially stopped. Lockett's heart stopped beating moments later.

In the report, Oklahoma state prison warden Anita Trammell is quoted as saying that the procedure was a 'bloody mess'.

What did this degenerate do to put him self in this situation? Did he ghive his victim(s) a painless death? Who cares if his execution was “botched”. Botched?????? The perp is dead. I’d say “successful”.

in a frantic attempt to save him What did I miss here? It was a execution right? did he try to save the poor girl he buried alive? I don't know what the problem is. If he suffered, well good deal.

I retired from a big city fire department after 25 years; IVs get botched all of the time. Occasionally a paramedic or nurse will hit some type of arterial vessel and make a mess, but it generally does not cause any more discomfort than normal botched IVs. Doctors are generally much worse at giving IVs than paramedics and nurses because they don’t get much practice at it.

If there was a problem in starting an IV line in the criminal, it is likely that the dude was an IV drug user who destroyed all of his superficial veins.

I am not an IV drug user and I was taken to a hospital in Australia while on a business trip because a piece of meat got stuck in my throat (thankfully it didn't stop my breathing) and they tried to put me on some IV and the nurse hit an artery. What a mess. Sometimes bad stuff just happens.

On the way home I thought "if airport security opens my bags and sees the clothes I was wearing to the hospital they will wonder who I killed."

Why don’t they execute people by simply inserting a central line into the femoral artery and drain the convict’s blood into a sealed container? The convict would slowly lose consciousness and die shortly after. Not a bad way to go.

They should use an injection containing a combination of lead and copper directly into the heart, or a “green” organic method using a 20 ft. length of one inch hemp rope.

Friends of victim have zero sympathy for Clayton Lockett, inmate who took 43 minutes to die in botched Okla. execution

"Stephanie was beat up, she was shot, she was thrown in a grave when she was still alive,” Marilee Macias, the owner of the Kumback Lunch in Neiman’s hometown of Perry, Okla., told KFOR-TV. “His little 30 minutes of lying there in anguish, if he was even feeling any anguish for 30 minutes, does not compare at all to anything Stephanie went through or her family."

Why even involve doctors, IV lines, drugs and all that ? Employ a firing squad, set up at an outside location, clean the mess and let the coroner haul the body away.

Maybe this had something to do with his vein issues.

"The report confirms earlier indications that Lockett was trying to find a way to kill himself before the state could. According to the report, Lockett refused to cooperate with his executioners. At 5 a.m. on the day of his execution, correctional officers sought to take Lockett for X-rays at the health center. (Why X-rays are part of the execution protocol is not explained.) Lockett refused to get out from under his blanket and offer up his hands to be restrained. Corrections personnel at that point noticed blood inside the cell. They sought permission to use a Taser to forcibly extract Lockett from his cell, where Lockett had blocked the door. When they finally got him out of his cell, prison staff discovered Lockett was suffering from self-inflicted wounds to his arms, and they found razor blades from a prison-issued safety razor and a homemade rope inside his cell. The report offers other evidence that suggests Lockett was preparing for suicide: About six weeks before his execution, Lockett had been suspected of hoarding hydroxyzine, an anti-anxiety medication he'd been prescribed. After he died, an autopsy showed potentially toxic levels of the drug in his system, suggesting he also attempted an overdose before he was executed."

And of course, his crime was hideous.

I vote for right behind the courthouse. To be used immediately after conviction.

This is what Clayton Lockett did:

At around 10:30 p.m. Bobby Bornt was asleep on the couch at his house in Perry, Oklahoma, when his front door was kicked in. Clayton Lockett, Shawn Mathis and Alfonzo Lockett entered his house and immediately started beating and kicking him. Lockett was carrying a shotgun which he used to hit Bornt.

After the beating, duct tape was used to secure his hands behind his back and they gagged him and left him on the couch while they ransacked the house looking for drugs. As Bornt lay restrained, his friend, Summer Hair, approached the open door. She was pulled inside, hit in the face and thrown against a wall. One of the men put a gun to her head and ordered her to call to her friend, Stephanie Neiman, who was outside sitting in her pickup. When Neiman came inside, they hit her several times to get the keys to her pickup. They were bound with duct tape and put in the bedroom where Bornt's nine-month old son, Sam, had been sleeping. Hair was forcibly raped and sodomized by all three men. They were then loaded into the pickup trucks of Bornt and Nieman and driven to a remote rural location. Hair was again raped in a ditch by Clayton Lockett and Mathis, who told her “In order for you to live, this is what you have got to do.”

Clayton Lockett instructed Mathis to dig a grave and said :"Someone has got to go.” Neiman was taken to the hole dug by Mathis. When she refused to promise that she would not go to the police, Clayton Lockett shot her. The gun jammed, but he fixed it, returned and shot her again. While Mathis buried Neiman, Bornt and Hair were warned that if they told anyone they would be killed too. They then drove both pickups and dropped off Bornt, his son and Hair at Bornt's house and they left in Bornt's pickup. The following day, Bornt and Hair told the Perry police what had happened. Neiman's pickup and her body were recovered and all three men were subsequently arrested. Clayton Lockett ultimately confessed to police.

Nah. I don't have any sympathy or bad feelings about Lockett spending 30 minutes in pain during his execution.

And why swab his arm with alcohol swabs when inserting the IV line? Afraid he’ll get an infection and die?
