The study I posted a link to showed EV D-68 in roughly 0.5% of children presenting with ILI who were checked. Considering, in the US, there were under 100 cases since EV D-68 was discovered in the early sixties prior to the most recent outbreak, I would say the virus is far more prevalent in the study population. That the outbreak coincided with the dispersal of illegal alien children over the US is at least an interesting coincidence, combined, the two may indicate the origins of the outbreak. Not looking in that direction would indicate political correctness overrode science.

Sequencing would confirm or refute the hypothesis, and I believe I mentioned that.

Ebola may be out of the news, but the outbreak is far from over. Another little coincidence is that with the new Ebola Tsar, the news feeds shut up about it, which made it look like Obama made it go away. It is just an information blackout for the short attention spanned minions.

This EV68 is certainly concerning. Some numbers I saw earlier indicate that it neurologically damages a higher proportion of infected children than polio did. And there is no vaccine, and probably will not be one within the next 10 years if any company is interested in developing one.

It is going to take more study to determine where EV68 came from, whether these cases started as a single source outbreak, or if there are many independent outbreaks.

There are plenty of diseases that we can blame on the open southern border, but I do not know that there is enough evidence to place EV68 among those diseases.
