Two Mystery Illnesses Linked to 12 Child Deaths; 94 Paralysis Cases Since August

In the span of four months, at least 94 children in 33 U.S. states have developed a devastating form of paralysis with symptoms similar to polio. Some require a ventilator to breathe. And some of the greatest government health minds in the country say they have no idea what’s causing it.

At the same time, during the past four months, at least 12 children have died after falling ill with a respiratory virus called Enterovirus D-68 (EV-D68). Again, federal health officials are at a loss to explain the origin of the epidemic.

Are the mysterious outbreaks linked?

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has given the perplexing paralysis cases a new name: acute flaccid myelitis (AFM). And although it has been the subject of a series of national alerts, it’s not been widely covered in the national news media.

Both the AFM paralysis and the EV-D68 respiratory virus infections occur primarily in children.

...

Specialists in California where many of the paralyzed children were diagnosed suspected EV-D68 almost immediately. Two of the first five paralyzed patients were said to have tested positive for EV-D68.

Furthermore, Dr. Teri Schreiner of Children’s Hospital in Colorado recently referred to EV-D68 as “the suspected pathogen” in paralysis cases. And Dr. Benjamin Greenberg of University of Texas Southwestern said the theory of a link was “substantiated by significant evidence”—something CDC seemed reluctant to publicly acknowledge.

If the two are linked, it’s unclear why some children infected with EV-D68 respiratory virus go on to develop crippling paralysis. Since mid-August, the CDC has reported 1,149 serious cases of EV-D68 in 48 states. The actual count is likely higher since CDC doesn’t require states to report EV-D68 illnesses.

Link to Illegal Immigrant Children?

Of the 3375 children tested who presented with influenza like illnesses (ILI), .53% of them had EV D-68. This over one year.

In the meantime, in the US, fewer than 1 case per year from the time the virus was discovered until the recent outbreak. This would indicate the virus is far more prevalent in Central and South America than it has been in the US, up until the same time frame that 'unaccompanied illegal immigrant" children were admitted wholesale into the US and distributed over the country.

Again, correlation, but a tighter fit. Investigating to find out specific subclades of the virus would perhaps tie that down to specific groups or regions, but evidence tends to indicate that the virus came in with the illegal children and was distributed with them. Occam's Razor, and all that...

It has been verified that the border-jumpers, emanating from 144 antediluvian disease-ridden countries, are carriers of TB, Ebola,Chikungunya, Dengue fever, Norovirus. Hantavirus, Swine flu, Varicella. Variola, E-coli.......and childhood diseases America stamped out years ago.

The Obama admin has calculatedly kept secret:

<><> the medical conditions of minors transported to US schools....

<><> the contagion status of contaminated US border-holding facilities....

<><> the contaminated public transportation used to relocate minors.......

<><> dangers to Americans from contaminated illegals handling our food, merchandise....

<><> cost to taxpayers forced to subsidize contagious children in their classrooms....

================================================

Ebola. Chikungunya. Dengue. Norovirus. Hantavirus. Swine flu. Varicella. Variola. The names sound like something out of a Sci-Fi movie. Yet, threats to Americans are real, and escalating by the week.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported on August 1 that serious diseases are spreading at detention centers for Illegal border crossers.

Health care workers and Border Patrol agents, plus their children, have tested positive for tuberculosis (TB), swine flu, chicken pox, lice and scabies. Instead of being quarantined, illegal border crossers are being dispersed rapidly across the U.S., with those of school age being registered in public schools opening soon for all. Remember that even in uber-Progressive MAss, thousands of viscerally "tolerant and compassionate" liberals rallied at the state house in opposition to the illegal border swarm....carriers of horrendous diseases being transported to US classrooms. The nation’s attitude toward illegals WRT jobs, school and crime boils down to:

<><> punitive action against illegal immigrants:

<><> nearly two in three Americans favor reporting employers who hire illegal immigrants,

<><> increasing fines for those employers,

<><> criminalizing the act of employing illegals,

<><> requiring the police to report illegal immigrants to the feds,

<><> over a third support keeping illegals out of public schools.”

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY: denying illegals access to the welfare/entitlement system; a system created for, and subsidized by, working, tax-paying American citizens.

You cannot make even a correlation unless you know the incidence of the virus in Latin America.

And then, to get evidence of origins, you need sequence data, preferably from each case. Then the phylogenetic trees can be built. With enough data, the phylogeny of the virus will reveal the path of its spread across the US.

I do not have the time to look into this, since although Ebola has fallen mostly out of the news (which is a *huge* relief), I am still very busy with it. I would love to be busy with other diseases.

The study I posted a link to showed EV D-68 in roughly 0.5% of children presenting with ILI who were checked. Considering, in the US, there were under 100 cases since EV D-68 was discovered in the early sixties prior to the most recent outbreak, I would say the virus is far more prevalent in the study population. That the outbreak coincided with the dispersal of illegal alien children over the US is at least an interesting coincidence, combined, the two may indicate the origins of the outbreak. Not looking in that direction would indicate political correctness overrode science.

Sequencing would confirm or refute the hypothesis, and I believe I mentioned that.

Ebola may be out of the news, but the outbreak is far from over. Another little coincidence is that with the new Ebola Tsar, the news feeds shut up about it, which made it look like Obama made it go away. It is just an information blackout for the short attention spanned minions.

This EV68 is certainly concerning. Some numbers I saw earlier indicate that it neurologically damages a higher proportion of infected children than polio did. And there is no vaccine, and probably will not be one within the next 10 years if any company is interested in developing one.

It is going to take more study to determine where EV68 came from, whether these cases started as a single source outbreak, or if there are many independent outbreaks.

There are plenty of diseases that we can blame on the open southern border, but I do not know that there is enough evidence to place EV68 among those diseases.
