“I believe some parts of blue states would ask red American if they could join...the small towns of New England for instance...”
Large swaths of California, Oregon and Washington too. The large population centers are liberal. The suburban and rural areas are conservative.
The piece actually addresses that: if you want to come over, become a citizen and vote, you need to provide two years of military service first.
Most Libs crossing the border aren’t going to do that.
Ugh, not this meme again.
The great bulk of the expenditures in the those states receiving the most federal monies are military -as they have one or more bases in them.
Other states that receive a great deal of return are those with vast swaths of federal land — often overlooked. Or conveniently overlooked?
Where can I join the South Ohio Militia fighting to split the state and bring the southen part and most of Indiana into the Red States of America? We'll even call ourselves North Kentucky and drop the letter G from the ends of words if that would help us joinin' y'all.
I can’t imagine Indiana wanting to go with Blue America and Illinois south of I80 and west of I39 would want to be in Red America also.
If it did happen, the results would be very much as described in this fantasy. The "Republic of America" would become an economic powerhouse and a bastion of liberty, equality, and justice for all--i.e. The American Dream.
One sine qua non would be mandatory at the time of separation: The strict regulation of immigration into the "Republic of America".
I particularly liked this part:
"Blue Americas deficit exploded even as Red America balanced its budget, per the one new amendment it had added to the Constitution."And this:
"The lie that was the liberal promise was there for all to see."
The lie that is the liberal promise is there right now for all to see. Those who want to see the truth already see it. Those who don't probably never will.
Roads, ag subsides, and welfare.
Roads are a big chunk of it. A state like say, Nebraska, doesn’t have the road fund to keep I80 up to code.
Your “let” is the key word. All will depend on if we let them let us. I think not.
This story could play out without any official secession necessary, all that is required is for us to practice States Rights.
Prolly not for long. Those dangling reparations will look mighty tempting.
Or Ohio. Or western PA. Or upstate NY. Blue America would end somewhere east of the Appalachians.
No. Rear-view mirror tunnelvision.
“The bad guys would still be setting up abortion boats off the coast of Louisiana.”
Boats sometimes sink. . . or so I’ve been told.
There ya go!
I'd also like to see a breakdown of red communities versus blue communities, in both blue and red states, to see if there is a similar correlation in the different dependencies.
That’s exactly right - if each state asserted its rights over the fedgov, then no secession would be necessary.
However, that’s the whole issue, is it not?
They will not “let” the states assert their rights to avoid a secession solution, so secession (or Art V) is necessary.
the free states would certainly have to place SEVERE restrictions on Constitutionality of any gov’t actions, especially taxing and spending, in order to prevent the whole thing from happening again in the free states.
The main problem we have in Western PA is Allegheny County. It has a very large senior population that will vote democrat until they die. Then there is the union contingent that still can’t figure out why all the steel mills went belly up. All in all, it is a heavy democrat stronghold. Once you literally leave the county line, it is conservative (with some dem’s sprinkled about that left their utopia county behind).
There is information about methodology at the page. I agree that can significantly impact things.
However, it seems intuitive that states with higher incomes will on average pay higher income taxes and states with lower incomes will receive more transfer payments.
If somebody wants to put together what they think is a more fair comparison using better methodology, I’d like to see it.
Me, I don’t have the time or expertise. :)
Soon the Socialist Democratic Blue States of America may find out what life is like without the South. :-)
