Smart man, smart plan. One vote at a time.
So another priest in the Wilmington diocese has died and another was called home to be with a dying father. Presiding priest at mass this morning announced about the advent penance service was this coming Wednesday and he didn’t care how many more priests died the service would go on.
“If I have to pronounce universal absolution I shall do so,” he muttered and the congregation kind of giggled.
We’re all still hurting a little bit over the death of a priest during a parishioner’s memorial service, of all things, but we’re healing.
A couple in a class I led over a Catholic book the parish sponsored stopped by to say to me. I told them I was the mass when Father Mark passed and they shrugged, offered their experience with Father Mark.
“If you gonna go, that’s the way I’d wanna do it,” the husband said with a tight smile.
Well Father Mark did just, boom, drop dead, literally before he hit the floor and yeah, we all decided that’s how we wanna go.
Father Jim, today’s mass presider, made us smile tight smiles again with his gauntlet tossed down that damn the dead priests, penance would go on!
Meanwhile, way I figure, Father MArk’s up in heaven (I was told by somebody that priests go right to heaven, do not pass go) laughing that he died the best possible way, no pain, directly in a church, during a memorial service already in process. Said memorial service being for a co-choir mate and now Father Mark-who also could carry a tune- and Merle are in heaven singing away.
Anyway, just an anecdote, yon reader should insert smile here. Thanks for indulging me.
