Senate pushes to Monday vote on $1.1 trillion spending bill

After hours of debate on the massive government spending package, the Senate adjourned until Saturday, pushing a fight that dominated Congress for days into the weekend.

The Senate is expected to vote Monday on the $1.1 trillion package, which has already passed the House, Sens. Mitch McConnell and Barbara Mikulski said late Friday.

Members from both parties in the Senate are trying to make last-minute changes to the bill.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid made a procedural move Friday that would set up a vote on final passage in the Senate no later than Monday.

In a surprise development, the Senate recessed until Saturday, when it is expected to approve a five-day continuing resolution to keep the government operating until the bill is completed.

Reid tried to get unanimous consent for an adjournment until Monday when there would be enough votes to end the filibuster, but Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, objected because Reid would not guarantee a vote on an amendment dealing with immigration funding.

Reid then announced to an almost empty chamber that the Senate will be in session beginning at noon Saturday

So shut it down. Throw the bums out. Republicraps AND demoncraps. We’ll all be better off. Every breath they take is a step toward national suicide. Pull the IV. Turn off the machines. Call it. All the CPR in the world won’t save THIS mess in the vegetative state it’s in.

I just see no answer. Systemic poisoning has run its course. Thanks Obola. You and all of your maggot pals.

somehow Thomas Paine and Common Sense seem very appropriate at the moment.

This article is clear as mud.

As far as I can discern the only move that Reid made was to have a saturday session and it seems to allude that because of that they cannot vote on amendments???

Anybody here understand what’s going on?

On CSpan last night, it seemed like Cruz pulled some constitutional maneuver and nobody except the CruzCrew knew the constitution well enough to know what to do next. I just hope they can bring it back to the HOR somehow, now that HOR traitors have gotten an earful from home.

Rush was talking about this on Friday. Seems like the House passed a bill that was good for 48 hrs before government shutdown. If that happened, the bill would have to back to the House and they’d have to pass another bill.

He also said that one Senator could stop this in the Senate by not giving unanimous consent. That would open up the bill in the Senate for 30 hours of debate. And the bill would have to back to the House and they’d have to pass another bill.

Seems like Ted Cruz was listening.

Yep, all those important congress critters needing to get home to pick up their Christmas bribes.

Most of them would do anything just to keep the money flowing into their coffers.

I too, am on Cruz-control.

Here’s the counter argument. More people need to know the 5 elements of good laws:

1. Generality - Laws shouldn’t be specially carved out to benefit one group or to attack or harm a narrow group of individuals.

2. Prospectivity - This is the constraint on ex post facto laws. Laws should always apply in the future and never to the past.

3. Publicity - Laws should be broadly published and well known, both to the representatives themselves and general public.

4. Consent - Laws must be generally acceptable to those who will live by them.

5. Proper due process - Due process means that the law is meted out equally and fairly with each similar crime being treated the same. Justice must be blind.

Systemic poisoning has run its course.

Sadly true. It would be nice if we could have just a little chunk of our former country where we could start over again.

Looks like Boehner did something right, even though it is unintended. The Republican house sent over a bill that both conservatives and loony leftists in the senate won’t approve. By putting Obamas name to the bill, he absolves himself of being held responsible.Thats called bipartisanship and republicans cannot be blamed soley.(although they will).

Now the fun part. With the poison pill put into the bill, it elevates Warren who frankly has no shot of winning the Presidency. It isolates Hillary in that her opinion forces her to agree with Warren, losing Wall Street support or going against it and losing the lefties.

And the best part. With Cruz and Lee hammering amnesty, conservatives are going to hit the phones hard, Americans are going to speak up and Reid now has to put his caucus on record, which helps republicans in 2016.

It is either unintended or Boehner is a genius, using lib Dems to get congress off the hook of this monstrosity. Of course I am leaning unintended because Republican leadership has proven time and again that they are wusses.

A system can not be debugged and restored to operation without considering the specified purpose for the system -- which in this case is "TO SECURE THESE RIGHTS, governments are instituted among men".
