Exodus: Gods and Kings comes to us courtesy of 20th Century Fox, which is distributing Ridley Scott’s $140 million would-be epic. The producers this time around are Chernin Entertainment, Scott Free Productions, Babieka, and Volcano Films. The film opens wide in America on December 12th, 2014, and it has already opened in some overseas markets as of December 3rd. Over the next few months, it will of course attempt to play a two-sided game. On on hand, the film will be targeting the overtly religious moviegoers that have made quite a bit of noise this year. On the other hand, 20th Century Fox wants the general moviegoers worldwide who just want a major spectacle-filled blockbuster regardless of the film’s would-be religious dogma.
Working in the film’s favor is the relatively well-known (if not “all-star” in a box office sense) cast, featuring the likes of Christian Bale, Joel Edgerton, Aaron Paul, Sigourney Weaver, Ben Kingsley, and John Turturro in roles of various sizes. Also of note is director Ridley Scott, who allows Fox to put things like “from the director of Gladiator” on the marketing materials. 20th Century Fox is one of the best studios in terms of overseas box office, so I can’t imagine anything less than a worldwide hit regardless of the film’s quality or racially-correct casting.

When Christian Bale went on record as saying he thought Moses was nuts, I knew the movie wouldn’t properly tell the story. That alone made me decide to not see it.

Exodus is the same movie as the 1956 movie Ten Commandments. With Yul Brenner and Charlton Heston is it not? They also did a remap of the Ten Commandments in 2006...

Powerful movie. The music was powerful too. Gave me goose bumps and tears. One of the best.
Sigh. Sounds like just another soulless CGI movie without much story, dialog, character development or acting. I’m starting to think almost all “blockbuster” films are little more than infomercials for the video game.
Just watched Ghostbusters again tonight, and it was wonderful to see a movie with real sets for the entire picture, with minimal bluescreen and claymation for the special effects.
That ‘Exodus’ was based on the Leon Uris novel, not on the Book of Genesis.
I had hoped that Prometheus was a random trainwreck, with Lindelof largely to blame. It now looks that Scott may have hit the wall. I fear his desire to revisit Blade Runner.

The movie Exodus with Paul Newman and Eva Marie Saint was about the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948. The Ten Commandments was about the biblical Moses, of course. Hollowwood is doing its best to muck it up.
There is a Bible book of Exodus. Second book.
The Leon Uris novel and later the movie made on it tried to create parallels between the Exodus from Egyp and the founding of modern Israel.
This movie has nothing to do with the 60s book or movie. It’s a retelling of the story of the original Bible book of Exodus. Which has previously been made into a number of movies, most named after the Ten Commandments.
