Sen. Ted Cruz: 'Torture is Wrong. Unambiguously. Period. The End.'
Breitbart ^ | December 10, 2014 | Charlie Spiering

Texas Senator Ted Cruz is reminding Americans that no civilized nation should ever torture prisoners.

“Torture is wrong, unambiguously. Period. The end. Civilized nations do not engage in torture and Congress has rightly acted to make absolutely clear that the United States will not engage in torture,” Cruz said during the Q-and-A portion of a speech at the Heritage Foundation.

I’ve heard differently that the Japs that actually were taken alive were not mistreated at all. Their Intel value was so important as to caves and defenses etc.

Is it wrong for our enemies to torture our troops to gain information?

That question is mere metaphysical masturbation when you KNOW the bastards are going to do it regardless how much handwringing goes on about it here.

Of course it is, but we are talking about terrorists here. The media has blurred the lines here so that everyone gets confused. TERRORISTS DO NOT HAVE GENEVA CONVENTION PROTECTIONS. To think so is an insult to our won uniformed military.

I guess the question is, Is waterboarding torture?

No.

And to have prevented 9/11, the (etc) would have been in my personal playbook, without remorse.

Horse crap. Saying that “they made me do it” is weak. Is it wrong or not? That’s what we’re discussing. Cruz said it’s wrong, and I agree. For a sample of metaphysical masturbation, see the discussion you replied to, with it’s hypothetical conundrum designed to manipulate the answer that you want to hear. The question stands.

Is repeated music torture? - Teenage son.

Is interrupted sleep schedule torture? - Daughters when babies.

Is waterboarding torture? - Trying to give the dog a bath.

At least you are honest about answer but..........You don’t know what you would do!!??!!! Good God!! Your very own loved one held hostage, (say in a warehouse somewhere nearby by kidnapping scum telling you your loved ones have 2 HOURS TO LIVE), and you somehow have captured, and in your hands, one of the co-conspirators, he with knowledge of your loved one’s location and you don’t know what you would do to obtain that info from your captive info that would save your loved one’s life!??! You wouldn’t inflict the the most pain on his azz as necessary to get that verifiable info from him? DAWGS....what say you? I can’t believe what I am hearing here!!! This meekness is killing our Country!! The heck with it. I’m just gonna give up and run away to the Philippines.

Ted had better get his terms and assumptions right quick.

Torture of POWs is illegal and unnecessary and unproductive.

THESE SCUMBAGS ARE NOT POWS.

Back in the day, when rules of war were actually definable, they would be called spies, assassins, and saboteurs. No trial. Caught up to mischief while not in uniform, they could expect no less than to be put against the wall and shot.

These assholes’ lives are already forfeit, by Geneva Convention standards.

I like that scene from “Breaker Morant”:

“Did you discontinue the practice of placing prisoners in rail cars? NO? Well Why not, if you found it so disagreeable!?”.

I think I would rather be waterboarded than killed stone dead with a drone-strike.

I'm not sure how the GENEVA CONVENTION got dragged into this conversation, but if you'd like we can change the question to "is it wrong for terrorists to torture our troops to gain information? ".
I'm certainly not taking the terrorists side here. I'm agreeing with Ted Cruz statement on torture.

Well my standard is that we don't torture prisoners of war in a war as long as the prisoners are soldiers in the army of the opposing Nation State.

The reason is that a very large number of the soldiers are usually conscripts and fighting in war they were conscripted for. However, the islamo-freaks are soldiers who WILLINGLY went on their war on their own and are not affiliated with an official nation state!

That is why the islamo-freaks gain the title "enemy combatant".

This is why in some cases (allegedly) during WW-II they would take regular German soldiers prisoner, and captured SS officers would end up dead in the woods with a bullet in the backs of their heads.

In a perfect world, no one would torture anyone over anything.
But it ain't a perfect world, and never will be.
The reality stands.

[ THESE SCUMBAGS ARE NOT POWS. ]

Correct, POWs are Soldiers fighting for a Nation State that were Captured by the other side....

What Nation State besides their imaginary Caliphate are the Islamo-Aminals fighting for?

Think about that statement for a second. Am I to take that seriously? Are you demented in some way?

I would agree with that. If the enemy combatant supports a known Nation State, with a declared head of state (who might conceivably sign a peace treaty) and if the enemy combatant wears a uniform of some kind when they fight, then they deserve to be treated with the honors of war under international law.

Terrorists? Torturing them to death upon capture should be mandatory. Napalming their villages should be mandatory. There are no rules. They are rogues, scoundrels and pirates. No quarter.

"Guess what? We don’t as a matter of national policy. And when Obama did, we pitched a fit."

I refer you back to the picture at #114.

I'm unable to work up any sense of moderation toward the savages who did that (and so much else).

Do it behind closed doors, if necessary, but do whatever it takes.

That’s a pretty tortuously drawn scenario you’ve got there. Kinda not at all related to the topic at hand... as national policy, torture is wrong. Unambiguously. Period. The end.

“Actually the the Japs would commit Hara Kari so very few actually surrendered.”

A lot of this was because they basically brainwashed them into believing what we did to our prisoners was far worse than how they treated their prisoners and they treated their prisoners very badly.

We are not fighting Germans. We are fighting ISIS/AL QUAEDA, who are more like the Japanese.
