I stand with Rand on this one. This was totally different than the Ferguson affair which IMO was a righteous shooting.
The officers involved were doing what they were told and trained to do.
A New York Grand Jury agrees.
Rand is right on this one.
Absolutely.
I don't dislike Rand Paul, and don't discount him. It's just that he's all over the place. It'll be interesting to see where he lands.
There was a black female sergeant at the scene supervising the arrest. At no time did she try to de-escalate the situation or call off the officer. The grand jury also believes that no crime was committed.
Garner had a stress induced heart attack. If he hadn’t died then, he’d be dead by now anyway.
It was not a “chokehold death.”
It was a resisting-arrest death of a man in very poor health.

Plus the on-scene supervisor, who could have halted the arrest at any time, was given full immunity.
The supervisor also happens to be a black female.
If you are going to hold anyone responsible for Eric Garner’s death, shouldn’t it be the person actually responsible?
I agree with you. That policeman over-reacted. I’m fearful of giving too much support to Paul, because he’s become a politician. Who knows if he means it or not?
The situation was handled poorly by the officer and his supervisor. I would fire both of them. There is no basis for criminal charges. It was just bad work that unfortunately resulted in a death.
Thus, I agree with Senator Paul.
Except that the choke hold was not the cause. Review of the video shows that the hold was only briefly applied. The victim did not die from lack of oh-2. It seems the victim had many medical triggers that contributed to his death, brought on by resisting arrest and the ensuing tussle. The knee in the upper back could be more of a contributor as well.

People who don’t know what they’re talking about should keep their opinion to themselves. You were not there, you were not on the grand jury and you are not privy to the autopsy report along with other evidence collected. We do know the dead man was close to 6’5 and weighed 300 lbs, was obese, diabetic, high bp and a bad ticker. He had been arrested close to 30 times before. The cops that put him in a headlock was a little guy 5’7. NYPD make over 1/4 million arrests (misdemeanor) yearly with very few problems. The store owners complained at a community police meeting to the black chief of police that Garner was injuring their business. The chief then ordered the cops along with a black female supervisor to go and arrest the man. Maybe we should look at the political structure that cause cigarettes go for $13.00 a pack in NYC with close to $8.00 collected in taxes.
