Judd Gregg: The GOP must tread carefully (moderates coming out of the woodwork with advice!)

It is distinctly possible that House Republicans will kick away their opportunity to accomplish anything of significant value in the next session of Congress before it even begins.

The chances of the Republican Congress governing effectively next year could be all but over by Christmas of this year if their performance over the last two weeks, or their preview of coming attractions for the coming week and next year’s sessions, are true indicators. Rarely in the annals of democratic government has a time of so much opportunity been so promptly and effectively eviscerated by those to whom the opportunity was presented.

President Obama challenged the House Republicans right out of the box with an executive order on immigration that was not meant to be anything other than a political taunt.

Self-proclaimed conservatives in the House seem to have been taken in by this ruse. They have taken the bait and have called for chaos in this year’s operation of the government as a response.

Maybe the folks over at the Heritage Foundation who appear to be calling the plays have gone to too many Washington Redskins games. Their approach will guarantee a loss via self-destruction.

Or maybe they could just care less. Since the money they are raising from the folks across the country keeps flowing in and they have gullible House members who will follow them down this dead-end street, they get what they want: attention and funds.

Now is hardly the time to be setting a tone of confrontation on a marginal issue. Doing so will only leave a public perception that these guys — Republicans — are not ready for prime time. And that perception would be legitimate.

Hey. So they dug up old Judd Gregg and gave him an opportunity to get his name in the news again by attacking his party. So after an historic election, where the Republicans won a bigger victory than any opposition party in decades, and have more state legislatures than a party has had in almost a century, the GOP has blown it already and should just pack it in and wait for the next loss.

Gregg is a fool who should go back to playing with his grandkids and leave the politics to people who didn’t let a Republican state turn blue, like New Hampshire did while he was one of the principals of the state GOP.

Unless you are a big corporate executive fatcat campaign contributor, a K Street lobbyist, or a member of the Country Club set, the GOPe does not care about you.

If you support authentic Constitutional conservatism, and don’t fall in line to support Establishment Republicans (Jeb Bush, Christie, Priebus, Ryan, Kasich, or Walker) the GOPe hates you.

If you think illegal immigration is a marginal issue then it is YOU that was not listening to the American voters that swept the GOP into Office.
No more going along to get along. Lead. That is what we elected you to do.

I hear there is NO Executive Order. BHO just sent a memo to the Director of DHS instructing him how to prioritize deportations.

More “The GOP will fall into a trap if it takes a stand on anything” crap from a retired moderate.

STFU, Gregg. You’re no longer in the game.

He is still in the game so to speak. I believe he collects a large salary working for Goldman Sacs interests in government. He is a highly paid lobbyist. So, who cares what he says. He no longer works for the people of NH.

It is distinctly possible that House Republicans will kick away their opportunity to accomplish anything of significant value in the next session of Congress before it even begins.

An article which begins with a false premise -- Does he really think without veto-proof majorities in both houses of Congress that the GOP has an opportunity to accomplish anything of significant value with Obama in the White House? Who's he kidding? -- is not worth clicking on to read in its entirety.

Okay, actually there is something of significant value the GOP can accomplish, but not if they take "moderate" non-confrontational advice: laying the groundwork for complete control of the government starting in January 2017. To do this they have to confront Obama by passing lots of popular bills and letting him veto them. Hell, knowing they won't actually be able to get anything past his veto, they should be cynical, and focus-group conservative initiatives, then pass them in the following order: the three most popular in increasing order of popularity now, then a string of the less popular ones that still garner majority support, then in the run up to the 2016 elections come back with revamped versions of the three most popular ones.
