A police shooting is under scrutiny Saturday, a day after officers fatally shot a man they say was armed with a knife.
Hundreds of protesters in an already scheduled march against police brutality staged a die-in at the iconic corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue, where a man was fatally shot by police.
Cellphone video captured the aftermath of the incident, which unfolded Friday night about 7 p.m. after officers said they responded to an assault with a deadly weapon in-progress call.
The Los Angeles Police Department says the man did not comply with officers orders to get down.
When they told him to get down and comply, he did not at all, said Bruce Cherry, one of hundreds of witnesses.
Cherry said the suspect initially had his hands outside of his pockets.
When they ran up on him, he went inside of his pockets and stuck both of his hands inside of his pockets and then thats when they pulled out on him, Cherry said. Thats when the shots rang out.

Wasn’t it Jefferson who said something to the effect that the more rules and discipline we have in our hearts and minds the less we need laws and ordinances out in the world,?

“When they ran up on him, he went inside of his pockets and stuck both of his hands inside of his pockets and then thats when they pulled out on him, Cherry said. Thats when the shots rang out.”
Why is it that every time I hear the “He reached inside his pockets” claim, my BS meter starts climbing? If all we have is their word, I’m not buying it, especially if they only ‘found’ a pocket knife. That excuse has reached “Dog ate my homework” status. It has become a prepared statement for when nothing else will do. Just make claims that are hard to refute.
I’m very much remembering the recent incident of a guy that cops claimed lunged at them with a knife. But security camera footage showed him rock still. Those cops lied to CYA.
Swiss Army knives are good for cutting cardboard cartons.
The blade doesn’t lock and it makes for an awkward slashing tool.
“When they ran up on him, he went inside of his pockets and stuck both of his hands inside of his pockets “
Classic knife to the gunfight situation. Hope the cops don’t get lynched by the Hollyweird crowd.
What the hell is going on? It’s like a damned epidemic. It’s like somebody is setting these jokers up to get shot so the chaos can continue. Sounds loony I know but, you gotta wonder sometimes.
I love that scene. It got a standing ovation in the theatre I saw it at :). We need more Indys.

The Victorinox brand aka “Swiss Army knife” does make a lock blade variant. Ask OJ about that.
Shot him with a knife?
(I love these breathless news run on sentences.)
Yep. Look for some heavy stuff before the new Congress is sworn in.
It’s becoming like the “the dog lunged for me” excuse.
Odd that most parents would except fewer obvious lies and excuses from their children than many people do from government employees.
“Maybe one of the hundreds of witnesses will clear that up.”
Hopefully they do. I would like nothing better than to find out the cops did tell the truth here. But history shows it is best not to take their word for it.
Trash that if you like, but it isn’t my fault cops don’t have a word worth a steaming pile of (censored). They made that decision as sure as that Brown kid made his. If they had valued their word, the rest of us would too.
They walk around lying to people, in court, in reports, and other officers support those lies. Then they don’t fire proven liars, even though the value of a cop’s word should be a job requirement of the first order. Look up the Brady List, a list of cops who are useless on the stand, and still are cops. That is the measure of what LE thinks of their own word.
Even a lot of judges make it clear they don’t trust cops a bit. Who’s fault is that? So when a cop says something happened, especially if it involves a death, I’m not one to simply take them at their word as to what happened.
What?
Both statements in the article were made by witnesses not the cops.
But history shows it is best not to take their word for it.
As I pointed out there is no need to take a cop's word for anything here. There are hundreds of witnesses. You keep babbling on about "trusting the cops" after having it pointed out to you that there is no need to rely on their side of the story at all. Hundreds of witnesses should be sufficient to establish the facts without "trusting the cops."
” Trash that if you like, ...
What? “
‘that’ was supposed to be ‘this’.
so it should have read “Trash this if you like,” then back onto my soap box.
Yes, I know what you meant. I just don’t understand why you took that attitude. It’s getting clearer.
