Obama, complaining of sore throat, diagnosed with acid reflux

President Barack Obama, who had medical tests on Saturday after complaining of a sore throat, is suffering from acid reflux, the president's physician said.

"The president's symptoms are consistent with soft tissue inflammation related to acid reflux and will be treated accordingly," Obama's doctor, Captain Ronny Jackson, said in a statement.

Acid reflux is a condition in which the stomach contents flow back up from the stomach into the esophagus, causing such symptoms as heartburn and sore throat.

Obama, 53, went to Walter Reed military hospital for a fiber optic exam of his throat and since swelling was detected, doctors decided to perform a CT scan as well, Jackson said.

What about HPV. Depending on *what* you’ve had in your mouth - HPV would be the first thing they’d look for.

Wow, we’re getting some great suggestions tonight.

Thanks. Those on a low sodium diet will appreciate that.

That may be true. I would still think the endoscopy would suffice, but I may be all wet on that. Who knows...

I brush my teeth with a 50/50 Sodium Bicarbonate and Salt combo about once a month. The Sodium Bicarb is quite abrasive. I don’t think it’s a good idea to use it all the time. I’m not an expert though. I can tell when I’ve used it too much. When I use my whitener, my teeth are sensitive to it when I’ve used Sodium Barcarb too much.

That’s pretty much when I get acid influx too. Too much, too late, the wrong types of foods.

If I’m just reasonably careful, I seldom get it anymore.

Steve86, you may have something different than what I have, cause wise. I’m sorry it doesn’t work for you, but I’ve been told it doesn’t by people too.

Perhaps you can try the Apple Cider Vinegar or the Sugar remedy mentioned on this thread.

I just hate to see folks fork over big bucks unless they have to.

The Sodium Bicarb neutralizes acid. I’m not sure why it doesn’t work for you, but you’re not the only one.

Yeah, I thought I had acid reflux too, which seemed to come about every time I heard Obola speak. But then I realized that I was just vomiting in my mouth just a little. Since I stopped listening to him speak, I haven’t had any trouble...

I have tried raw apple cider vinegar diluted in warm water and it did mostly work for several hours at a time. But I couldn’t stomach anymore after the first three days and went back to prescription Prilosec. There is zero copay on my Prilosec, fortunately. Thanks for your comment.

ladyjane: You NAUGHTY!

If I have gay patients that come into my office with "sore throats", all bets are off when it comes to a differential.

In fact if a gay patient comes in with a sore butt, we have to do a HPV swab, not to mention an anal swab for GC and chlamydia.

Now that's standard of care.

If Obama has HPV in the back of his throat he's got some splainin' to do.

Preferred examination
Among imaging studies, barium esophagogram findings can demonstrate anatomy and possible complications of reflux disease (strictures). Reflux and inadequate gastric emptying may also be demonstrated.[4]

Nuclear medicine gastric emptying studies are sensitive in evaluating for incomplete gastric emptying.[5]

Presently, no role exists for computed tomography (CT) scanning, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or ultrasonography in the routine evaluation of patients with reflux disease.

Either he has something more than a “persistent sore throat” x 2 weeks or the CT scan was an unnecessary procedure at this point in the game. I know he is POTUS, but surely his insurance has guidelines which must be followed.

How many of us have health care policies which will pay for a CT Scan because of a sore throat? How many of us could afford to pay out of pocket for a CT Scan because we wanted that extra diagnostic procedure to rule anything else out?

This is where the GOP needs to re-frame the issue of obamacare. It is a golden opportunity. The exempt have policies which cover the extras denied to each & everyone of us and the rich will be able to pay out of pocket for procedures none of us can afford. These extra diagnostic procedures are either not covered or cost prohibitive.

What better example to have than the President of the United States, the same person who destroyed a functioning system rather than correct what needed to be corrected? I can hear the objections. That would be playing politics with the health of POTUS. My response would be the dems played the worst type of politics when they passed obamacare. Turnabout is fair play.

Good Steve86. At least you’ve found something that works for you, and that’s the important part.

It’s very painful or at least quite discomforting to have acid reflux.

Mine is worse if I lay on one side vs the other.

I'm no medic but your comments are right on with my thoughts.

I have only had one CAT scan. It was for a kidney stone. I have had numerous sore throats and never had a scan for one.

I guess it's more of his transparency./s

We will have to wait and see.

I’m trying to think of the name of the pathologist who first diagnosed GC of the pharynx. Imagine having that in your wiki bio.

You would think they would come up with a better explanation of what they are doing. The CAT scan and sore throat scenario just doesn't add up.

As usual, there is something they are not telling us.

Obviously more Obama transparency./s

Yes, lying on he left side gives reduction in symptoms because of the asymmetry in how the esophagus enters the stomach on the right side (as I’m sure you know).

Rx: 1/4 cup of lye disolved in household ammonia, washed down with quart bottle of Clorox diluted 1:1 with Lime Away.

That should take care of "the problem".

....Jackson, who noted in a medical report that daily exercise, healthy eating and a tobacco-free lifestyle had helped the president stay in great shape. The president is a former smoker.

Bull. Anybody I've ever known in my life who quit smoking gained at least 10 lbs or more, at least initially. Obungo hasn't put an extra pound onto his skinny frame.
