Egypt held its Badr 2014 military maneuver between October 11 and November 6, its largest exercise since 1996 which was only half the sizeaccording to a senior security expert the Nile state has its sights on Israel, despite the peace treaty.
Col. (res.) Dr. Shaul Shay, former deputy head of the Israel National Security Council, detailed the maneuver in Israel Defense on Saturday, analyzing the massive military preparations.
According to Shay, Egypt wants not only to improve security domestically, but also it hopes to reassert its historic leadership role and become the regional hegemony. With the rise of (President) Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, a new generation of military leadership in Egypt has taken control of the countrys armed forces.
The security expert continued: Exercise Badr 2014 and the creation of the RDF (Rapid Deployment Force) signals a move toward enhancing Egypts more offensive, conventional, asymmetric and counterinsurgency capabilities both within and beyond the countrys borders.
Speaking directly about what that means for Israel, Shay noted that the exercise is meant to prepare for a potential conflict with Israel.

How is Israel a “contingency”?
Yes! Correct.
Look up Ezekiel 38, that’s the 2nd war (future) to go against Israel. Russia leads that coalition.
For us they aren’t, for the father of lies they are.
If Egypt were wise (they aren’t for we know what scripture says about them already and it hasn’t even happened yet), they’d bow down and beg for forgiveness from God, repent, and do everything they could to AID Israel against what is coming.
Still, God does still call them “His people” during the Millennial Kingdom of Christ per Isaiah 19:25.
Yes, the real Egyptians (Copts). The Isaiah verse doesn’t seem to refer to the Ishmaelites that took them over, even though Ishmael was half-Egyptian on his mother’s side.
Egypt knows Israel is not the enemy. Israel would not attack Egypt unless Egypt does something stupid.
Egypt’s enemy are the Muslim Brotherhood and their allies.
Yes! Copts are the original and only Egyptians—thank you for clearing that up!
I think the verse is specific to only Copts and not Ishmaelites.
If Egypt “knows” this, then what was with the multitude in Tahrir Square chanting “To Jerusalem we go, martyrs in the millions” why by far and large were not MB members of Salafi? and why did they originally vote in MB members who were “officially” not members in the first place? Public sentiment does not change in three years, especially anti-Israel sentiment.
C’mon. A bunch of idiots dancing in Tahir Square does not equal what the government is going to do. You really think the current gov’t would launch an unprovoked attack against Israel?
False dilemma.
And yes, I do think that.
we need to end all foreign aid of all kinds to most of the world if not all of it

Fully agree, and have thought so for many years!
How many trillions of taxpayers’ dollars have just been given to other countries in attempts to buy their support.
Those countries just laugh at the US for having idiots running the government and giving them money to build their armies and weapon systems.
If you are commander in chief with file cabinets full of old contingency war plans, you assign a colonel to dig them all out and update them. One of those contingency plans, perhaps even several, are concerned with various war scenarios with Israel

. . . and subsequently focus on said scenarios?
I think too many people on here quickly forgot that a majority of Egyptians polled several times over are/were in favor of war with Israel. And even “elected” autocrats thrive on public sentiment.
So they had running-cats-on-fire practice, and gun-dropping drills?
Don't agree with you this time. It would not benefit them in the least.
Jihadi Muslims regard dying in what they perceive as Allah’s cause as the ultimate “benefit”. Why else would they have chanted “martyrs in the millions” in Tahrir Square back in 2011?
No use in applying kumbaya-liberal misperceptions here.
Useful idiots.
