NYPD sources confirm that Eric Garner was a player in an organized crime cigarette smuggling syndicate, Gotnews.com has learned.

(snip)

“Garner was setting up shop in front of the local stores and shaking down business owners and patrons as they entered,” says Cardillo.

Garner would use his considerable size to strong arm largely ethnic shopkeepers and was “on the radar” of local law enforcement who had arrested him previously.

Quite the posthumous news release!
It still doesn’t mean he should have died.

Convenient that this comes out now. As I have said before, the real crime is the tax on cigarettes in NY. I don’t blame people for avoiding it.

Yep he shouldn’t have resisted arrest and tried to play sidewalk Johnnie Cochran.

This gotnews.com site has been scooping all the major news outlets and all of the conservative websites (that usually scoop the major news outlets). There’s been quite a few examples recently.

Are they new and who are they?

I am repeatedly telling this lib acquaintance of mine that all these cases have one thing in common. The perps are resisting arrest. Whether LEOs are right or wrong, people should comply. They can always litigate later but not if they are dead. The lemmings out there are driving me nuts!

This is just character assassination, something the left is great at, and watching the fools here engage and bite on it disheartening.

There is no way you can justify this guys death, just like there is none you can for the 12 year old boy shot in cleveland.

The fact that some folks are going to knee jerk to defend every indefensible thing because the left tried to turn Furgeson into something it never was is disheartening.

Those were loose cigarettes that he was selling on the street, if I recall, which should cause a parent to think twice before allowing their kids to sell lemonade from a lemonade stand on their street..............

Shaking down the business owners is more serious than selling cigarettes. I want to hear more about that.

Gentle Giant indeed....

The video of his "take down" shows the cop with a headlock on Garner being lifted off the ground.

No, people should be aware of all facts.

Truth is neutral.

If that’s what he did, then that’s what he did.

I do not want facts kept from me for any reason.

There is nothing that can be done to bring the guy back.

What’s done is done.

Cigarettes are taxed everywhere, although it’s particularly high in NYC. However, the reason these cigarettes are “tax free” is that they’re stolen or smuggled in the first place, by the Mafia or jihadi groups, and that’s what arrests like this are meant to stop.

BTW, it’s not only cigarettes but even things like gasoline that are stolen and resold by these groups through vendors such as Garner.
