We seem to be moving toward a political system where only the rich will be able to enjoy the pleasures of life... Soon only the rich will own homes...and only the rich will drive cars... Everything else will belong to the GOVERNMENT and the elitist who own it..!!!
Land of the free...home of the brave....I guess the joke is on us... :(
The early Dutch explorers recorded that the aboriginal tribes they encountered who occupied Manhattan at the time of their arrival had pipes for tobacco. Juet (a crew member on the Half Moon) stated that the natives had pipes for smoking tobacco and De Laet in 1625 reported the presence of stone tobacco pipes as well.
Loose Tobacco was smoked in the ceremonial peace pipe!!!
My point? Just highlighting the absurdity of all these tobacco taxes and the anti tobacco hysteria of the left.
Natural tobacco without chemicals added smoked by the native Americans and regularly used in their ceremonies cannot possibly be the pure poison and “evil” substance that the liberals overreact to.
Reading a Jonah Goldberg column always expands my vocabulary. Brobdingnagian?
I just had a thought. The high cigarette taxes were imposed to make people stop smoking, correct? So if every smoker stopped smoking the revenue would go down. So would the government now want to tax nonsmokers?
“...if every smoker stopped smoking the revenue would go down...”
Exactly. The way the sort of quasi prohibition on tobacco is (not) working right now is fostering a black market and a criminal underground supporting that black market in just the same way that prohibition brought on the Jack Diamond style alcohol runner gangster.
To sum up, government over-regulation of tobacco is bringing on crime, trouble and a black market.
Thanks for your reply
This is claptrap. The left’s war on society continues.
