Earlier this semester, the UNC-Wilmington African American Center hosted a panel discussion on the Ferguson race riots. A student of mine noticed that none of the panel participants actually visited Ferguson. Given that I interviewed protestors on site in Ferguson in August, the student wanted to know why I was excluded from the panel. It would only make sense to assume that I had some unique insights into the Ferguson situation relative to those who had never actually been there.
Of course, the problem with my student is that he is a man of principle and thus fails to comprehend the true basis for expertise in academia. Most people assume expertise is determined by knowledge. In academia, expertise is determined by ideology. That is why the African American Center chose an avowed Marxist feminist to represent my department and sit on the Ferguson panel despite the fact that she would never go to a real protest with real black people.
Tellingly, the Marxist panelist is one of only two UNCW professors to have been sued in federal court for a violation of Section 1983. She lost but since her victim was white she was given a pass. Those who would object to her invitation to sit on the panel might ask, "What could she possibly know about civil rights, given that she previously lost a federal civil rights suit?" But they would be missing the point that knowledge is irrelevant to academic determinations of expertise. Ideology is the sole criterion.
Choosing a Marxist was safe because there was virtually no chance that she would articulate any idea that the black victimhood center did not already endorse. By inviting a Marxist, two ideas would be firmly reinforced:
1. The cause of black on black looting is white on black racism. Or, more generally, black crime is determined by "society," not chosen by individuals.
2. The remedy for black on black looting is not to rebuild black businesses. It is to expand the size and scope of the federal government.
If you think I am merely quibbling with my own university and with my communist colleagues you are wrong. This is not about me and my particular university. It is a national trend as well as a national tragedy.
Just last weekend, Fox News reported that Chenjerai Kumanyika, an assistant professor at Clemson University, traveled to Ferguson to help the protests expand and to disrupt businesses in the larger St. Louis area. Fox quoted Kumanyika as saying "Capitalism is one of many systems of oppression." One wonders whether communism is among the "many systems of oppression." Welcome to the inverted world of hire education.
By sending the message that people are not responsible for burning down their own neighborhoods, academics are contributing to the likelihood that it will happen again in the future. And they know it. In fact, it is their goal to do away with private business and fill the void with government agencies.
According to the Marxist worldview, it is foolish and naive to think that black protestors are simply betraying their own people by burning down black-owned businesses. Instead, they are turning against those who have betrayed them by daring to start a business. In that sense, the white cop and the black entrepreneur are one in the same: they are members of the bourgeoisie.
To the tenured Marxist, black entrepreneurs are more than just oppressors. They are uppity Negroes who have forgotten that their place is on Uncle Sam's Plantation. Black looters are the victims. Black businessmen are getting the social justice they deserve.
I don’t know. Looks real to me.
Why? Because the black killers and abusers are merely acting out from the racist anger and oppression directed at them by evil whitey. If you think I'm kidding, then you haven't been reading enough articles written by black people in columns and on black websites. If the narrative would change and black agitators would admit that blacks are responsible for their own problems, down goes the whole black victimology structure and the fortunes of numerous agitators and politicians.
But Obama never meant for the police to use the military equipment given to them against blacks. That equipment was to be used against Tea partiers.
GREAT headline! The result of village raising.
” To the tenured Marxist, black entrepreneurs are more than just oppressors. They are uppity Negroes who have forgotten that their place is on Uncle Sam’s Plantation. Black looters are the victims. Black businessmen are getting the social justice they deserve.”
Great insight.
Despite what Dear Reader says, we were FOUNDED as a Christian Nation. And things were fine until we ALLOWED the Left to over-run us and take God out of every aspect of our lives.
What DID people think the outcome would be? Seriously? What? With no moral touchstone, no rules, no one to be accountable to, people would still, ‘do the right thing?’
Meh.
Please tell me the middle sign is photo shopped.
Looks real to me too
Father Brown was caught on tape screaming "burn this b*tch down" after the grand jury's decision....
Filing charges would be a good move---for these reasons:
<><> The parents are lying in wait to sue everything in sight---dreaming of getting millions( b/c the thug they raised was killed by a cop defending himself).
<><> The Police Dept---and/or individual citizens---then have several options:
(1) file complaints against the Browns' lawyer for disbarment w/ the Missouri Bar Association b/c as an officer of the court, the lawyer is breaching his legal duties.
NOTE the US justice system does not dispense justice to individuals who come to court w/ "unclean hands" (a legal term meaning those who have committed crimes).
(2) the insurance company of the lawyer handling the case can also be sued.
Mother Brown reportedly was involved in an altercation WRT the sale of tee shirts. Do the stepfather and mother have existing rap sheets?
Having destroyed the education system, African-American family, created a dependency soceity, many of these young men are unemployable. So the best solution has been eliminated by the liberals.
That middle sign can’t be for real.
(If it is, Houston, we have a problem)
I tracked down the original.
How come Obama doesn't get slammed for trying to be white, being POTUS? or Holder, isn't he the "top cop"?
What a freakin waste, for those two not to council young black men how to avoid tussels with cops. To not take advantage as successful black men to educate young black men who have no role model in the home, to slam the "acting white" meme and tell them to be productive citizens as it will help save their life and give them worth.
Be sure to send your kids to public schools and universaties if you want them to become communists. It seems to be working quite well. Time to makes major changes in our education system.
Isn't federal and state employee Christmas and Easter paid holidays a problem when it comes to separation of church and state? Do you think the entire government workforce, fed, state, city, county should be given the day off and paid for a religious holiday?
The person in the middle is bad enough, but is the person on the right a man or a woman?
That is a great example. We are talking about GENERATIONAL thinking. If your parents, grandparents and great-grandparents committed crimes, and the family benefitted from it, it’s almost impossible for you to think of crime and criminals as ‘bad’. If dad/grandpa did something ‘bad’ then he would have to BE bad. Who wants to think their entire family is trash? It’s easier to accept them if you accept that everything they do-especially if you benefit from it- is perfectly ok morally. You think it’s ok, because your mother taught you to accept it,and her mother taught her to think that way. Seriously, if the thug brings home money, stolen items and the occasional car for you it’s a good thing. How to break this mental cycle?
The cause of massive black unlawfulness at every level, IMO, is the breakdown of the black family. What is the percentage of black births to single women - something over 70%. This sub-division of society is nothing more than a breeding bed for crime and anarchy, and destruction of every system they touch - education and government at the top of he list. And there is nothing white society can do about it, no amount of money will cure the illness. Only the black community can solve the problem, and the ones who would work to alleviate it are Republican blacks and they are being marginalized and effectively shut up by other blacks. This could grow big and take the form of the French Revolution with mob rule and guillotine justice. (golly, it feels good to get that off my chest!)
Photoshop.
