(CNN) -- A missing Ohio State University football player has been found dead, authorities said Sunday.

Kosta Karageorge, a fifth-year senior, had missed practice Wednesday and hadn't been seen since.

Sgt. Richard Weiner, with Columbus police, said that Karageorge died from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

His body was found inside a Dumpster and identified at the scene through tattoos, Weiner said.

A handgun was also recovered at the scene.

It was not immediately clear how long the body had been in the Dumpster, Weiner said. An investigation is ongoing.

What the hell is a “FIFTH YEAR SENIOR?” Isn’t school four years?

Now we're getting into the football eligibility realm; whole other animal.

It can be very confusing. Lots of deferments due to injuries, etc...

Actually I think 5 yrs for undergrad is pretty much the norm these days, and not just for athletes.

It’s a great way for “Big Education” to improve their sales $$.

I think I’ll climb into a dumpster and shoot myself. That way, no one will wonder if I didn’t really do it all by myself.

Or maybe, "That way no one will have to deal with the gruesome task of disposing of my body."

From the article:

"I am sorry if I am an embarrassment but these concussions have my head all f***ed up."

He might have been right.

Don’t think that way just because iit’s a dumpster. The man who owned the local ladies gym did the same thing where I live. He climbed in the garbage dumpster and shot himself in the head.

My friends and I always thought it was to keep from being messy.

I think we may hear the real story in the upcoming days if this story isn't true...

yep...could be a way of not being found, keeping the scene clean, or, worse, that he thought of himself as trash/unworthy. Or it could be foul play. Obviously, this is all speculation. All I know is that it's terribly sad and a horrible thing for his family.

I'm far from convinced at the present time that this was a suicide. Dumpsters are usually not the kind of places for it. On the contrary, they are common places for murderers to dump their victims who are already dead.

This could well be a phony "suicide." It has, at least at this early juncture, some of the same strangeness as the death of Vince Foster.

If it proves out to be a real suicide, since the victim was a football player, you can bet that it will be thought of by the MSM as a being caused by multiple concussions that went unrecognized by the football staff and athletic department. Don't be surprised if the MSM plays up the "concussion" line even as it obfuscates the true cause of death.

“A walkon defensive lineman who joined the football team in August, Karageorge formerly wrestled at Ohio State for three years. His family has said Karageorge suffered several concussions in the past and at times would become disoriented.”

“He has been an important player in practice for us, right up until the time he was reported missing.”

Seems like he hasn’t been on the football team very long, and was only on the practice squad, but he was a wrestler for a few years.

We are talking about a guy that was 6-4 and over 300 lbs. If somebody killed him and then stuffed his body in a dumpster, I presume it would have to be at least two somebodies.

I would expect forensics to clear that up. Is there gunpowder on the player’s hand to prove he fired a gun? Is the bullet angle consistent with a self-inflicted wound? Are there fingerprints of others on the gun or the player’s clothes?

Clinical depression doesn’t need a reason. It is a chemical imbalance in the brain.

Agreed. I think it looks a lot like what happened to Junior Seau, sad. I'm sure this Karageorge was a fine young man but this injury got him.

Maybe he had schizophrenia? College age is normally when symptoms appear.

Many suicides are schizophrenics. I hope they are looking into that as well as depression.
