Why the Supreme Court should be the biggest issue of the 2016 campaign
Washington Post ^ | 11/28/14 | Paul Waldman

...Ruth Bader Ginsburg left the hospital yesterday after having a heart stent implanted and expects to be back at work Monday. Despite various health issues over the years, Ginsburg insists that she is still of sound body at age 81 (her mind isn’t in question) and has no plans to retire before the end of President Obama’s term to ensure a Democratic replacement. If she keeps to that pledge, and presuming there are no other retirements in the next two years, the makeup of the Supreme Court could be a bigger campaign issue in 2016 than ever before.

Purity?

Romney was pro-abortion, pro-amnesty, anti-gun, and a socialized medicine big government liberal.

That isn't impure, that's a flaming liberal.

If you vote for a liberal republican, you are voting for a liberal.

“And America has Never recovered from the harm done by FDR when he changed the majority on the Court replacing conservatives with the like of the Klansman Hugo Black—and the fellow traveler Felix Frankfurter who served as “transmission belt to Soviet Communist dictatorship —at least in his early years.”

I think its rather naive to believe what FRD did wasn’t inevitable once our state legislators lost control of the Senate.
Its was only a matter of time before some big lefty came into office in a ‘crisis’ to solve some major problem for which he claimed he didn’t have the power.

The fact that his ‘solutions’ had already been tried with poor to desasterous results by other governments both in the US and abroad doesn’t even seem to slow charismatic political leaders like that, so why should a Constitution one is not by any competing interest bound to respect?

That takes a kind of respect for history and/or forsige that people like FDR and Obama’s kind and supporters had none of.

Frankly short of re-installing competing checks upon federal power there is nothing we can do to uphold the Federal Constitution long term. Simply put a politicians entire life goal is generally to obtain more power. Unless there are other equally powerful politicians working to stop that in the interest of their own life goals, no constitution is going to eventually mean anything at all.

We either have State & local veto to Federal domestic intrusion or we have no federal constitution of Domestically limited power.

Reagan made bad choices

You left off King Day, which fed into white guilt and made Obama possible.

"Long live RBG!"

Yes. Well, how about 27 months live RBG!

She could resign of course, I'm not hoping for her death.

If the gay judge was a constitutionalist, it doesn’t matter.

As long as they are not insane and of good moral character right? </s>

There will be far too many Republicans that will fail to see a difference between the two candidates and go into the election booth and vote to make a point and send a message.
