"Our local [union] president encouraged us to take part," said Rasmussen, 58, who works in a lumber and building-supply warehouse. "I raised eight children on a Teamsters benefit package and Teamsters wage. I'm a firm believer in collective bargaining, and I'm very concerned about the security of this next generation."

Black Friday may be most famous for doorbuster shopping deals, but among progressives it's becoming a regular holiday for labor demonstrations. Friday marked the third consecutive year of scattered but highly visible protests against Walmart. Demonstrators, along with an unknown number of Walmart strikers, are calling for better pay and scheduling practices from the world's largest retailer....

I think I'll go protest at my nearest Goldman-Sachs office with a sign that says "I DEMAND $500,000 a year ... part-time." Think that'll work?

News headline from the near future: “Walmart testing automated store stocking systems, sees massive productivity increase.”

I’m sure it will happen. Amazon is doing it in their warehouses, so the tech is there, just need to justify the capital.

LOL! Good luck with that. Don’t forget to ask for full benefits and a retirement plan with that.

I noticed today that the local Walmart had added more self-checkout lanes.

I raised eight children on a Teamsters benefit package and Teamsters wage.

Mr. Rasmussen probably shops at only unionized stores that pay premium wages and benefits...right?

Ours, which happened to be the first "Super Wally" in Kalifornia, took out all their self-checkout lanes quite a few years ago....due to thievage.

Heard some idiot in FW today arguing that raising the MW actually helps walmart since employees have more to spend.

"I raised eight children on a Teamsters benefit package and Teamsters wage. I'm a firm believer in collective bargaining, and I'm very concerned about the security of this next generation."

First of all, driving an 18 wheel 30 ton monster across the country takes a little more skill than stocking peanut butter on a shelf.

Secondly, in order to raise wages, you have to get rid of all the illegal aliens that are working under the table, lowering the wage base and not paying taxes.

If Walmart doesn't offer you $15 an hour to start, go find a company that does.
I'm sick of these whiners, go find a company that pays you $15 for being Stuck on Stupid.

Walmart isn't the only company that has employees and if these people think
they're worth more then they'll have offers for higher pay. Walmart is a starter
company for people to gain reputation and work ETHICS!, not a company to retire
with unless you have MGT exp. Same goes for fast food.

Too bad Walmart prices will go up. Also too bad that the prices will inevitably rise faster than wages.

That’s actually a pretty good metric for the local ethics - do the larger neighborhood stores have self-checkout kiosks? Have they been there more than a year? If the answer to both is yes, then perhaps it’s a pretty honest neighborhood.

So, let me get this straight. Either your thankful you have a job or you don’t really want one? Is that how that works? Robots only need a tune up and routine maintenance on a set schedule so I’m wonderin’ how much are they gonna be paying the facilities folks? :>}

Imagine if you ran a small business, and you decided to give some kid a part-time job a little above or minimum wage for about twenty hours a week. You could probably do without the kid, but it's a little easier for you with him.

Then at some point the kid comes around and demands he gives you double his wages and he gets to work full-time...even though the job only needs about 15-20 hours a week. Would you keep that kid?
