Unorthodox police procedures emerge in grand jury documents
The Washington Post ^ | 11-26-2014 | Jerry Markon and Tom Hamburger

When Ferguson, Mo., police officer Darren Wilson left the scene of the shooting of unarmed teenager Michael Brown, the officer returned to the police station unescorted, washed blood off his hands and placed his recently fired pistol into an evidence bag himself.

Those actions, described in grand jury testimony, violated protocols for handling a crime scene and securing evidence, according to experts in policing procedures and Justice Department documents.

Wilson’s movements after the shooting were among a number of police actions in the aftermath of Brown’s death that experts said were unusual. The grand jury transcripts revealed, for example, that the officers who interviewed Wilson immediately after the shooting did not tape the conversations. They also showed that an investigator from the medical examiner’s office opted not to take measurements at the crime scene and arrived there believing that what happened between Brown and Wilson was “self-explanatory.’’

It is unclear how these unorthodox practices may have influenced the investigation of a shooting that has triggered a national conversation about race and police practices. The grand jury’s decision Monday not to indict Wilson in connection with the shooting death has led to protests nationwide.

Police and forensic officials have not responded to requests for comment over a two-day period.

He washed his bloody hands? Well, that settles it then. Hang him.

The real question is if any of those things could possibly rewrite the scene. I do not see how.

I do think they likely did not think right away “crime scene.” But the gun was turned over. Blood on the hands didn’t really tell any part of the story.

What the story is missing is any of the big long list of things that tell exactly the story Wilson told. The author is not seeking truth.

I would think the fact that he needed treatment himself would be reason enough to wash his own hands.

I wouldn’t exactly call it nothing.

“Those actions, described in grand jury testimony, violated protocols for handling a crime scene and securing evidence, according to experts in policing procedures and Justice Department documents.

While I am convince of Wilson’s innocence,(those who know me saw a pig fly by.) That doesn’t make improper investigation OK.

They did what I accuse cops of, they investigated this with a forgone conclusion in mind, not as a critical investigation of an officer involved shooting. It was their job to catch him if guilty of a crime, and they had no intentions of doing so. This is why I never trust cops investigating cops. They aren’t motivated to do the job right.

Ignoring procedure is a great way to accidentally let a guilty cop get off, or a not so accidental way.

...so does “unorthodox police procedures” mean that Wilson meant to kill Brown?

Just asking...

“They can’t find any evidence he broke the law.

So now they’re b*tching about technicalities.”

I just dealt with this with another. Proper investigation of a officer involved shooting is not a technicality. It is their job to catch him if he did make mistakes. Do you want to see murdering cops walk because the investigators didn’t do their job right?

Wilson seems to be innocent, regardless of investigation issues. But I WOULD jump down cops who choose to make investigating their own a total joke.
If they can’t honorably investigate a cop, then it needs to be someone else doing the investigation.

that thing could have AIDS so washing it's blood of his hands was self preservation, Wilson never said he didn't fire his weapon so gun powder residue or lack there of wasn't an issue

"It is unclear how these unorthodox practices may have influenced the investigation . . . "

In other words, there is no reason to believe any of this had any influence on the investigation. Damn, I hate the MSM.

Ok, explain how any of the alleged irregularities could have destroyed evidence implicating Wilson and exonerating Brown? AND - do we really know that these sorts of "irregularities" aren't fairly common in investigations?

...

Yep, and everything reported in all the grand jury documents point to Wilson telling the truth, Michael Brown was a violent felon who deserved to be shot to death, and his friend Dorian Johnson is a liar.

“Ok, explain how any of the alleged irregularities could have destroyed evidence implicating Wilson and exonerating Brown? AND - do we really know that these sorts of “irregularities” aren’t fairly common in investigations?”

First, my concern is not so much about Wilson. The evidence of witnesses is clear. My concern is with a cavalier attitude toward investigating a shooting by a cop. There have been cases where cops treated an officer involved shooting at face value, only for information to come out after that showed it to be murder.
1. A cop shot a kid who tried to run him over with a car. Cops were taking it a face value, but a proper investigation learned the car was in reverse. Officer lied.
2. The cop who shot a guy for ‘lunging at him with a knife’. Other cops shared that story. None knew that a security video showed nothing of the sort. He was standing still when the officers fired on him.

As for what might have been lost?
“The grand jury transcripts revealed, for example, that the officers who interviewed Wilson immediately after the shooting did not tape the conversations.”
If guilty, he could have said something that later could be used against him, or at least catch him out.

“They also showed that an investigator from the medical examiner’s office opted not to take measurements at the crime scene and arrived there believing that what happened between Brown and Wilson was “self-explanatory.’’ “

That’s pretty cavalier for an investigation into a officer involved shooting. There is no way to even know what could be lost in such a mistake.

This isn’t a game. Procedures exist to dot the ‘i’s and cross the ‘t’s. Am I the only one who sees that they have a responsibility to be honest and diligent in their investigation of a fellow officer? Or is everyone here just fine with whitewashing shootings by cops?

Small town police forces don’t always follow ‘the rules’ of big city forces. This is the griping of the thugocracy as it tries to complain about a known thief, high on marijuana, attacker of a police officer being shot and killed because he didn’t have enough common sense to just stop.

His mother is a piece of work too.....she keeps denying that her son would ever do anything bad
