Daring raids by UK Special Forces leave 200 enemy dead in four weeks
Daily Mail ^ | 23rd November 2014 | Mark Nicol

'SAS troops with sniper rifles and heavy machine guns have killed hundreds of Islamic State extremists in a series of deadly quad-bike ambushes inside Iraq, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.

Defence sources indicated last night that soldiers from the elite fighting unit have eliminated ‘up to eight terrorists per day’ in the daring raids, carried out during the past four weeks.

Until now, it had been acknowledged only that the SAS was operating in a reconnaissance role in Iraq and was not involved in combat. But The Mail on Sunday has learned that small groups of soldiers are being dropped into IS territory in RAF Chinook helicopters – to take on the enemy.

Targets are identified by drones operated either from an SAS base or by the soldiers themselves on the ground, who use smaller devices.

The troops are also equipped with quad bikes – four-wheeled all-terrain vehicles that can have machine guns bolted on to a frame. They then seek out IS units and attack the terrorists using the element of surprise and under the cover of darkness.

The missions have taken place on a near daily basis in the past four weeks and the SAS soldiers have expended so much ammunition that regimental quartermasters have been forced to order a full replenishment of stocks of machine-gun rounds and sniper bullets.'

See your fellow Jihadi’s body as it looks after he’s been hit by a round from a 50 caliber sniper rifle can’t be good for morale.

And our soldiers are sitting around the Embassy in Baghdad told to be careful about firing because of all the innocent people running around.

Would not be surprised if US Special Forces are doing much the same.

You would be correct, sir. Whenever you hear of SAS activity you can be certain of several things:

1. There are US Special Operations personnel present, with the three likely candidates being ACE (Delta Force), DEVGRU (SEAL Team 6), and the Activity (ISA).

2. That 'SAS' missions are typically joint SAS-SBS missions, with some instances of 'SAS' missions being fully SBS missions (eg the hunt for Bin Laden in ToraBora that was a joint SBS and Delta mission, but that the media categorized as a SAS mission).

3. That whoever is there, be they SAS, SBS, Delta, DEVGRU etc, they are absolutely killing professionals.

This is good but they gave up the whole operation including the spring offensive.

6 mos ago IS was 15,000 now it's 200,,000? What's an offensive of 20,000 going to do

And the US is at war again. Where are the protestors?

"Daring raids by UK Special Forces leave 200 enemy dead in four weeks"

A single B-52 raid could easily kill ten times that in a few minutes. And should.

Thanks. The SAS appears to get all credit in UK, just as Seals seem to here, for some reason.

If they’ve got a target. Massive air raids are not very effective against dispersed forces. Of course, if your forces are dispersed they can’t resist a ground offensive.

Read a book some years ago by an SAS guy. He grew up in the slums of London and was sort of a ne’er do well growing up. The SAS gave him a purpose in life. The training he described was god-awful hard, as of course was intended to weed out the mentally as well as the physically unfit. He admitted to cheating here and there in the training just to get through the regimen.
