Sen. Scott: All options will be used to stop immigration plan

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A South Carolina Senator promises to push back against President Barack Obama's immigration order.

Less than a month after Republicans swept the mid-term elections, the GOP is split over how to derail the president's executive order. But Sen. Tim Scott says his party may use a variety of ways to flex their new majority muscle.

The talk on local Latino radio is immigration. As the Lowcountry's immigrant population calls to ask questions about President Obama's plan to legalize an estimated 39,000 undocumented residents, a freshman South Carolina Senator has plans to stop it.

"One of the ways that we're going to push back in my opinion is to present some legislation over the next few months to hopefully solve some of the major problems with border security. And looking at the immigration process from a visa perspective," said Scott.

He spent the weekend in the Lowcountry, but his focus is still very much on what's happening in the nation's capitol. He says President Obama's executive order can also be stopped through financial means.

"There is a way for us to zero out some accounts that would provide the actual resources necessary for enforcing the president's, what I would consider, his decision that he can't make," said Scott.

But in his weekly address, the President stands by his immigration decision.

"There are actions I have a legal authority to take as president. The same kinds of actions taken by Democratic and Republican presidents before me that will help make our immigration system more fair and more just," said Obama.

Still, Scott believes he and other Republicans will use several methods to block the President's plan.

"The leadership in the senate really wants us to head in the direction of using the appropriation process to push back. Others have suggested that there is a way for us to look at the nominations that the president may present as a vehicle to slow that process down in order to grab his attention," explained Scott.

He tells ABC News 4 he also wants to invest in border security personnel and surveillance technology. Those are ideas the President says he's already committed to.

The political fight in Washington continues after Thanksgiving.

The pubs should harp on the main issue which isn’t immigration. That is just the latest crime. The root problem is Obama’s lawlessness. That needs to be the focus. It could have been the subject of immigration, guns, whatever. The issue is a lawless President. Passing some bill misses the point

Both illegal immigration amnesty and Obama’s unconstitutional granting of it are important issues.

I am afraid all but one option will be used to stop this POSPOTUS. Which means nothing will change.

Senator Scott needs to familiarize himself with this, and possibly his Governor might be interested.

Sen. Scott, just a small piece of advice. Don’t reveal your attack strategy to your enemy. Just sayin....

'We Will Not Engage': Michele Bachmann Reveals GOP Plans to Ignore Executive Amnesty

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn) revealed on Saturday that Republican leadership, led by Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Oh), has no intention of resisting President Obama’s executive amnesty that he ordered on Thursday.

[...]

“They acted as though the amnesty issue wasn’t even an issue. They said that the President is going to do what he’s going to do, and we are not going to get down in the mud with him. We are not going to engage, and what we are going to do is to talk about our positive solutions on jobs, the economy, education, and manufacturing,” Bachmann said.

She added that each congressman who spoke reiterated that not engaging Obama and staying positive was a “brilliant strategy.”

"We will not engage," she reiterated with disgust.

True but that wasn’t my point. Obama has a list of violations against the Constitution. He should have been impeached years ago.

Shut down the government. Insist on not only this order being rescinded, but also on a new law that restricts the scope of presidential executive actions. Then maybe compromise on reopening the government by having the action rescinded and an agreement to start negotiating on a law to clearly define and restrict the president’s executive power, so that it is clear that it cannot be used to essentially nullify laws that the president has sworn to uphold.

There is only one option that matters.

Remove him form office.

Everything else is fail, and the fact that you are considering anything else is fail.

Remove him, or he wins.

That is all.

There aren’t enough votes in the Senate to have him impeached. Just sayin...

Obama's executive action power: Is Obama telling us that he has unlimited power to sign an executive order whenever he wants to? I'm no lawyer, so I'm very confused. Certainly, even Obam's executive order power has its limits.

1. Iraq and Syria refugees, in, say Turkey: How limited is Obama's power in signing any immigrant or refugee executive order?

2. For instance, does Obama technically have the legal power to sign an executive order tomorrow---just a few days after he signed his present illegal immigration executive order---where he grants temporary amnesty to 2,000,000 to 5,000,000 Iraqi and Syrian refugees, and nobody can do anything about it?

3. Africa refugees: Tomorrow, can Obama legally grant immediate amnesty to 2,000,000 to 5,000,000 Ebola refugees from Africa, and, again, nobody can do anything about it?

4. In summary, does Obama and his clever lawyers have us by the throat when it comes to Obama's claim that he has unlimited legal power to sign executive orders wherever and whenever he pleases, and nobody can stop him, not Congress, not the courts?

5. Pardon for 5,000,000 illegals: Just before Obama leaves office in two years, can Obama legally pardon 5,000,000 illegals with an executive order?

6. Has the use of unlimited executive order power intoxicated Obama so much that he has become completely mad? God help us.

What meat exists in Obama’s ruling that can’t be terminated in two years?

All options will be used alright.  Except ending the immigration plan itself will not be an option for many of them.

Didn’t take long to turn him to mush.

Legislation will go nowhere. Cutting off money means the half-breed will just use money from somewhere else. Lawsuits will take years and who thinks for one minute that the half-breed will abide by any court decision?

Wake up, the half-breed has declared war on us. Any response?

Agree. Scott went on as if congress was responsible for the law, as if we still had a republic. Historians will mark 11/20/14 as the end of a grand experiment in self government.

The GOP ran on nothing and will produce nothing in return.

I gave in to the clamor at FR and voted this month. Absent a conservative nominee in 2016, I shall no longer participate in the ruse, the deception that our consent still matters.
