Enzi to challenge Sessions for Senate Budget chairmanship

Sen. Mike Enzi confirmed Wednesday that he wants to be the next chairman of the Senate Budget Committee and is in negotiations to supplant the panel's current ranking member, Sen. Jeff Sessions.

Enzi, of Wyoming, easily cruised to a fourth term in the midterm elections after beating back an aborted primary challenge from Liz Cheney, daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney. Enzi has more seniority on the Budget Committee, but Sessions, of Alabama, is popular in the conservative activist community for his firm opposition to comprehensive immigration reform.

"We're talking. I'd like to be the chair," Enzi told the Washington Examiner.

Sessions also confirmed that Enzi was after the Budget gavel. But when asked how he felt about it, said only: "We're good friends."

Although seniority can govern committee chairmanships in the Senate, any member — junior or not — can challenge for the gavel. Such campaigns are decided by the Republican members of the committee, only.

Republicans are preparing to assume command of the Senate in January after winning control of the chamber in the midterm elections. Part of that process involves negotiating committee-assignment ratios, with the Democrats and determining powerful chairmanships.

Most of this work probably won't happen until after a December runoff in Louisiana is decided. Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu is being challenged by GOP Rep. Bill Cassidy in that race.

They don’t want Jeff on the judiciary because of amnesty and also because Jeff has told the truth his whole career about aspects of the NAACP and black political corruption.

If you look at members of the local NAACP or black activist community of course some of them are communist. Some liberal websites make out it was a gaffe but it was true.

Enzi won’t question Paul Ryan.

NumbersUSA needs to get all their activists to burn the phone lines again over Enzi vs Sessions. That is one advantage Jeff will have that large base of people.

Don’t forget that Enzi was ranking member of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions committee with Ted Kennedy then Tom Harkin as chairman. He did nothing to stop Obamacare, did nothing to prevent Olympia Snowe from voting Aye, and thus getting it out of committee.

Enzi is a go-along type, safely reelected.

We may not like it that this it is long standing tradition in the Senate to appoint RM and Chairs according to Seniority, but that’s the way it is. Apparently Enzi didn’t consider this committee a priority when the RM slots were passed out.

It’s all inside politics, and there’s nothing we can do about it except whine if we don’t like it.

“We’re good friends?” C’mon, this is ridiculous, this is why the country is going down the tubes. Sessions is being way too nice here. The last I knew; a “good friend” didn’t want to steal your job or your girlfriend, etc. The selfishness of these guys in Congress has got to be higher than the average person; and because of this, the country suffers, because politicians won’t make sacrifices; the sacrifice of doing what is right even if it risks losing an election.

“WHAT’S IN IT FOR ENZI?”

The usual, he gets power and gets to thwart conservatism.

They aren’t pro amnesty. They are pro pork though. I hope they all get replaced in the next few years.

Palazzo especially is okay on amnesty.

Jeff Sessions got them to vote against Boehner’s border bill because Wicker and Cochran are not really influential.

http://americasvoice.org/blog/steven-palazzo-r-ms-wants-deport-us-born-children-immigrants/

Rep. Mo Brooks (R., Ala.) said Mr. Sessions helped convince many members of the Alabama and Mississippi GOP delegations that supporting the border bill would be a mistake.

Just when you think the GOPe has achieved its maximum level of evil they prove you wrong.

Jeff Sessions is maybe the last patriot left in the Senate. No wonder the scum want to replace him.
