Eva Shockey knew she was placing herself in the crosshairs of anti-hunters before she posted a photo of herself posing with a 510-pound bear she killed last week to her Facebook page.
The famous co-host of Jim Shockeys Hunting Adventures told Field and Stream:
My dad warned me before I even got involved with the show that I was going to have to deal with anti-hunters. Im a huge target for them because Im a smiley young woman, and Im different than who theyre used to dealing with.
But Shockey, 26, had no idea the flood of venomous comments would be so extensive, or that the story of her hunt and its aftermath would gain national attention in the mainstream news.
She killed the bear, the largest she had ever harvested, on the fifth day of a hunt with her father in Hyde County, North Carolina. Bears are responsible for extensive crop damage in the region, she explained on Facebook, and hunting helps control the bear population.
But this was such an impressive animal, and the photo was bound to attract lots of attention. Critics found their way onto Shockeys fan page by the hundreds, and opened with both barrels. She spent most of the day removing the harshest comments so other people dont have to read them.

I’d hit that and fall asleep in her arms, under the warmth of the bear skin blanket she’d make for us...
Were that my bear, which it is not, and were a picture of it on my Face Book page, which it is not as I do not ever participate in social media, the picture would be with the bear’s toung hanging out and close up of the bullet wound.
There’s one that won’t mosey across the border into GA and eat me whilst I’m walking in the woods. LOL! GA and NC are lousy with Black Bears. They need to be thinned out they are a nuisance and they can be really dangerous.

Good for her for fighting back.
We will not win the culture wars by giving up the moral high ground to the irrational anthropomorphists (bambiists).
Wow! That would make a great coat! I’ve never eaten bear but I know it was commonly eaten in America at one time. Probably still is. She can probably use every bit of that bear.
Poor little Marxists can’t ruin her life.

Not guilty.
A hunter friend of mine said bear meat wasn’t good to eat - too greasy. Never tried it myself.
My brother’s ex-wife’s new husband, hunts bear in MN, and loves the meat. Personally, prolly wouldn’t bother with it.
