Thousands gathered in grief on Tuesday after three American-Israeli rabbis and a British rabbi were killed by Palestinian terrorists armed with axes and guns at a Jerusalem synagogue.

Rabbi Moshe Twersky, 59, Rabbi Arieh Kupinsky, 43, and Rabbi Kalman Levine, 55, were all dual nationals of the U.S. and Israel. Rabbi Avraham Shmuel Goldberg, originally from Liverpool in the UK, was named as the fourth victim.

They were slaughtered in a dawn attack by two cousins who screamed 'god is great' as they attacked at random.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to 'respond harshly,' describing the attack as a 'cruel murder of Jews who came to pray and were killed by despicable murderers' before ordering the terrorists' homes destroyed.

I’m curious, given the turmoil and terrorism, why the place didn’t have some armed guards.

I bet it was no mistake. It was an effort to distort the truth.

Gawd, CNN makes me sick.

That was the first thing out of my Mom’s mouth when we heard about this, where was the security..I know when I go to Temple every week they have an armed guard standing outside and one standing inside..but I guess without metal detectors, you can’t screen every single person, but how the heck do people get inside a temple with MEAT CLEAVERS and axes..isn’t that something you can easily spot

Was this really at random? It seems odd that three of the victims were American and the fourth was British. You have to suspect that the terrorists were targeting men who were from the “imperialist” countries, as opposed to ordinary Israelis.

One of the terrorist scum lived in the area, probably knew the routine of who would enter the temple and at what time..its a very ultra orthodox area, especially early in the morning is when most come to pray

And I’ve seen arrangements like this at synagogues in the States too, given nuts who will, from time to time, think it is great fun to grab some weapons and menace a Jewish congregation. (I’m Christian by belief but I would have zero tolerance for hearing that anyone in church was doing this.)

Check Post # 12. These weren’t just any run of the mill terrorists.

It wasn’t a Sabbath or religious holiday either AFAIK so there wouldn’t be ritual reasons for forgoing the bearing of arms or getting a gentile service to guard them. I hope all Jewish congregations in the area take heed, and it would be very classy if Christians came out to help their Jewish neighbors’ security if it is lacking.

Obama would call them just random violence. He reserves the terrorists label for women with their babies at Tea Party rallies.

I don’t know why it didn’t have armed guards - perhaps it was an area with little or no previous trouble. I sincerely doubt that this situation will occur again, anywhere in Israel. It is just tragic that it took 5 dead and several injured to wake them up. I guess that this is just human nature, similar to how dangerous intersections never get a red light until someone dies in an accident.

My brother lives over there, and he’s been hired as a security guard by one of the synogogues, but he and it are over the “Green Line” (i.e. they are in territory gained in 1967).

In my synogogue in southern Texas, there are at least 2 armed and uniformed police officers at the gate/on patrol on the grounds on every Sabbath, with more on holidays or celebrations. Oh, and quite a number of us congregants also pack some heat - we take seriously the admonition “Never again...but if again, then not for free.”

Oh, and just to head off the question: yes, it is normally forbidden to carry items on the Sabbath (and on most holidays), particularly something that could light a spark of some kind (based on the Biblical prohibition on starting a fire on these days)...so a firearm would definitely be prohibited. EXCEPT that Judaism allows for the breaking of virtually any law to save a life. IMHO, this qualifies. Someone might say, “Well, how do you know - maybe you’re carrying this prohibited item for nothing?” Which would be true enough. But since G-d has not graced me with the gift of prophecy, I can’t know when my life or those of the people around me are in danger, so I carry every time I’m there because it MIGHT save a life.

The people who sport those Coexist bumper stickers think religions are just like various flavors of ice cream. Unfortunately, homicidal savage is not an ice cream flavor.

I wonder if this will finally cure Israelis of trading hundreds of imprisoned jihadists for each lone hostage.

Thousands gathered in grief

I am getting really tired of passively "gathering in grief." The West's response to terrorism is to cry and remember and go on the internet to wring our hands and beg the terrorists to change. Its so weak that its embarrassing and shameful. Stop with the mass grief. The families should grieve and we should be sympathetic to them, but we need to DO something beyond weeping and wailing on the internet. We need to really start killing these savages.

Now that Hamas knows it can kill American rabbis in Jerusalem with no repercussions from our president, what will keep them from killing American rabbis here? Obama has kept our borders open, as if extending engraved invitations to every crazy Jihadist in the world.

This year in Jerusalem. Next year in New York City, Miami, and any other place where Jewish-Americans’ ancestors settled to avoid the pogroms and death camps of Europe so that they and their descendants could live in peace...until now.
