Inequality, Unbelievably, Gets Worse (NYT/Rattner barf alert)
NY Times ^ | Nov. 16, 2014 | Steven Rattner

Posted on 11/18/2014 7:11:09 AM PST by Olog-hai

The Democrats’ drubbing in the midterm elections was unfortunate on many levels, but particularly because the prospect of addressing income inequality grows dimmer, even as the problem worsens.

To only modest notice, during the campaign the Federal Reserve put forth more sobering news about income inequality: Inflation-adjusted earnings of the bottom 90 percent of Americans fell between 2010 and 2013, with those near the bottom dropping the most. Meanwhile, incomes in the top decile rose. […]

Lower taxes means less for government to spend on programs to help those near the bottom. Social Security typically provides a retiree with about half of his working income; European countries often replace two-thirds of earnings. […]

All told, social spending in the United States is below the average of that of the wealthiest countries. And other governments help their less fortunate citizens to a greater extent than we do in ways that are not captured in the income statistics.

Why doesn’t ‘Ratner level his own self by sending all of his wealth into the Feds for “proper” redistribution?

Any mention at all of the hundreds of thousands of dirt poor illiterate migrants being virtually invited into the country?

Didn't think so.

You must live under a vastly different form of government if you expect income equality defined beyond equal pay for equal work. Even then it has to be a narrow application given that it is quite hard to define two different individuals as contributing equally.

This is typical absurd liberal logic.

If liberals were charged with extinguishing a fire, based on their approach to governance, they would show up with paper and kindling to smother the flames. If that didn’t work, they’d douse the blaze with gasoline. Then they’s turn around and blame Republicans for the out of control enferno and warn that it will get worse since Republican’s were elected to solve the dissaster.

Inequality gets more pronounced as the economy falters. That is not a surprise.
A falling tide lowers all boats, some will hit bottom sooner than others.
The left would blame the boats that are still floating.

Stever Rattner is a criminal. He took a plea and paid a huge fine for bribery and had his license to do investments revoked. I don’t understand how this guy can write for the NY Slimes and be a regular on MSNBC.

I thought Obamessiah was already supposed to have solved that “inequality” problem, right after he stopped the oceans from rising?

Maybe the wealth distribution will be more uniform once Washington is underwater.

America isn't about equality. Bastardizing our nation like this is called Socialism.
Socialism is a cuss word with an evil endeavor.

Equal opportunity, not equality. Nobody deserves anything unless they earn it.

Inflation-adjusted earnings of the bottom 90 percent of Americans fell between 2010 and 2013, with those near the bottom dropping the most. Meanwhile, incomes in the top decile rose.

It's normal for average money wage rates to fall following a recession. It is libtard policies that have made it last too long. With proper economic policy, they would have stopped falling a few months after the bottom of the recession, and they would have stated rising after full employment occurred.

When libtard policies result in a huge increase in money created out of thin air, there will be an increase in profits and rate of profit, which benefits the rich more than wage earners. So the increase in inequality is a libtard perversity of result in two ways.

This is yet another instance of the Left controlling the terms of the debate.

The promise of “Equality” in the US is a promise of equality before the Law. But the Left has forced this to mean “equality of results” which is not promised.

Why would increased inequality be unexpected? The Obama economy has liberated millions from job lock, and it is well known that liberated people make less than wage slaves. In addition, he is importing penniless Mexicans and Central Americans as fast as they can be waived through (pun intended). Increasing inequality might as well have been a campaign promise.

That’s exactly what liberalism is about, equality of outcome.
