WASHINGTON — Minnesota Vikings’ running back Adrian Peterson has been suspended without pay for at least the remainder of 2014 season, the National Football League said on Tuesday.

Peterson will not be considered for reinstatement before April 15, the league said in statement, for violating the NFL Personal Conduct Policy in an “incident of abusive discipline that he inflicted on his 4-year-old son.”

Tiki Barber is in disagreement on this.

That’s ridiculous. Sorry, but he settled the case and has contact with the child. It was a mistake, it was handled to match the situation. The NFL management is out of control.

The NFL violated a prior agreement with Peterson, namely, that once he settles his situation with the law, he would be reinstated then.

Where’s Drew Brees? Isn’t he the leader of the players’ union? Why no help from him?

This is BS.

My best guess is, that because of what they did with Ray Rice, they had to follow suit with Peterson. Don't much matter the Vikes seem to be struggling no matter what they do.

There are so precious few believable FACTS on this one that it is hard to come down with a firm opinion. That said, my thinking is Adrian was apparently a good and committed dad who just wanted to mete out some discipline to his kid . So far, so good.

But, did he go too far? If so, by what degree did he go too far? My gut tells me that the Vikings PC department is staying up too late each night!

I hope he never plays another down.

I wish he had done hard time for beating his kid the way he did at least twice.

I wish they would take any of his kids who live with him away from him, and I wish they would force him to financially provide for all the kids he's sired with different women wherever.

After he gets out of prison, let him keep $1M of his money to live on, just because society knows some mercy.

But I'm not the emperor, unfortunately in this case.

And I hope he never shows up in Norman, OK, again, either. He's already done his time here.

He shouldn’t have been suspended for this.

But I like how he was portrayed in the media to be such an honorable guy. He is not an honorable man. Honorable men don’t have baby mamas.

Tell us how you really feel!

There were some pictures circulating on the Internet that supposedly showed the child's wounds. If those pictures were real and not altered, your rant is justified.

I disagree. Peterson plead no contest (guilty) to reckless assault on a 4 year old child.

Corporal punishment is one thing, but beat the child severely and drew blood and left multiple wounds.

Also keep in mind, the boy is 4 years old. What can a 4 year old possibly do to make a civilized man think he deserved that sort of a beating. I the kid were 12 and his Dad caught him selling crack, I could understand it, but a 4 year old? No way.

Maybe Peterson’s coach ought to whip him until he bleeds, each time he fumbles, misses a block, gets stopped for a loss or is late for practice.

Also, it is not as if Peterson is a real father to the boy he beat. The thug has baby mammas all over the country.

Keep in mind, he has been getting PAID for doing nothing up until now. So, this is really only a 6 game suspension.

A long time coming. Pro athletes must conduct themselves like gentlemen, not street thugs. Finally the NFL is making good on the threats. Let this be notice!!!

His had virtually no punishment. I think your characterization is incorrect or he would have faced a larger penalty. He took harsh discipline too far. He acknowledged that at the time. It was an error. He lived up to it. He has full contact with the child which says a lot to back up my view. If he was any danger to the child he would have supervised visits only.

The nfl is overreaching here. If anything fine him significantly for the games he missed and maybe another game or two at most. The nfl is not a second judicial system. It does not have the checks and balances to do it effectively. They’ve now proven that time and again. I originally supported goddell’s role in discipline but it has gone horribly wrong and done more harm to the league than good.

I root for a division opponent of the Vikings but this guy should be on the field sooner than later.

“Adrian was apparently a good and committed dad....”

He won’t confirm say how many children he has with how many women. Like it’s an important secret or something. Maybe so all the women don’t find out about each other and compare money notes. Supposedly it’s something like six or seven by as many women, but that’s from one of the women themselves I think.

As far as a freakishly strong and skilled athlete not having enough skill to discipline his 4 year old son without cutting his scrotum, it’s hard to have much sympathy for him not playing the rest of the season if that’s what his team wants to do, at least in my opinion.

Have you seen the photos of the boy’s injuries? I think it is incredibly naive to think that the criminal justice system can be counted on to give out the punishment that is deserved. This is especially true when it comes to the rich and famous.

The fact that a DA accepts a plea bargain by no means indicates that the accused was innocent of the more serious charge. It happens all the time, cold blooded murders plea to manslaughter, attempted murderers plea to assault, those he commit serious assaults plea to harassment or disorderly conduct, etc., etc.

The suspension for the remainder of the season is totally appropriate and probably not harsh enough.

I used to be a fan of Peterson, but now I realize he is an animal, who roams the country breeding babies, doesn’t really act as a real father to them, then shows up once in a while to brutalize them.

The boy was FOUR YEARS OLD!

Maybe if he’s lucky, Øbama will get him reinstated and he can play ball . . .
Does Øbama know the Vikings were white people yet?

"That’s ridiculous. Sorry, but he settled the case"

Settled the case? He pled guilty to a criminal offense which he is currently serving his sentence for.

Sorry, I don’t have the same faith you do. Children have died in the care of adults ‘the system’ had determined were not harmful. A 4 year old is a baby,,and a grown, muscled, athlete put MARKS on him intentionally. What assurance of safety does this child have? Some overworked agency decided it was just a one time thing?

People who abuse children by accident started out that act by intending to harm the child. That’s the mindset. It doesn’t change when the adult gets caught. There’s no proof of that.

I respectfully disagree with your position.
