Here's What House GOP Could Do When Obama Issues His Immigration Order [Add your suggestions here]
National Journal ^ | 11/17/2014 | RACHEL ROUBEIN

When President Obama issues executive orders on immigration, House Republicans will be waiting with repercussions.

They're readying for a fight as Obama crafts administrative action that couldreportedly defer the deportationof as many as 5 million undocumented immigrants. This would likely count as the "big and bold" move Democrats are urging Obama to take, but many Republicans view this as an overreach of presidential power. It's an action that should have consequences, they say.

All options are on the table as House Republicans prepare to fight the president "tooth and nail," House Speaker John Boehner said in a press conference Thursday.

"Here's the time to get creative," Rep. Matt Salmon of Arizona said, "and I think that's what the speaker said when he said we're looking at all options right now."

But what exactly does "creative" mean—and how far will it extend?

If Obama announces his executive order next Friday at noon, the House could stay in session for as long as needed rather than beginning the planned Thanksgiving recess. The chamber could pass a resolution rejecting the president's actions. Then House Republicans would focus on appropriations.

The current funding bill is set to sunset Dec. 11, and lawmakers are jockeying over passing another short-term continuing resolution or a longer-term package. The House could attach a rider prohibiting enforcement of Obama's order, or it could not provide money to departments that would respond to executive action.

This strategy aligns with a letter that Salmon, along with at least 62 cosigners, sent House Appropriations Chairman Harold Rogers and ranking member Nita Lowey. It urges them to insert language into any spending bill prohibiting the use of appropriated money for executive action that would create additional work permits or green cards. Essentially, Congress's power of the purse would be Obama's punishment.

As long as Boehner and McConnell are running their respective chambers, nothing will happen and Obama will have his way. To paraphrase a Bill Clinton adviser, stroke of the pen, law of the land.

Before anything happens with the Obama illegal immigration executive order is signed, the REPUBLICANS should begin an information campaign that should begin with a blitz online. They should be shooting a series of commercials which essentially tell the truth about the lying, untrustworthy obama administration and say something like the following:

The obama administration has now removed all doubt to even its most ardent supporters that their favorite tool for communicating an issue is THE LIE. Obamas lies usually are preceded by a declaration that He just ad heard about this on the news, all the while he has at his fingertips the most sophisticated intelligence gathering apparatus in the world. In other words, he has forfeited the peoples trust for his political advantage. Gruber has removed all doubt. Gruber has been corroborated in his statements by the White House Log and the former White House Press Secretary, along with $5.9 dollars in income from federal and state governments. So when obama tells you something, ask yourself, "Is he to be believed?" Only NONessential government functions will be stopped, as they do each Friday at 5p.m. There have been 20 shutdowns since the Reagan Administration. Hardly anyone took notice.

Is Obama believable? History has shown the answer to be a resounding NO over the past 6 years.

.........

.........

This commercial (or something like it) should be playing on television and the internet and in newspapers across the country. Play OFFENSE. Play Hardball. If the Republicans wait, they will simply be respnding to democrat lies.

Boehner will tell Obama that we are really really mad now. Then he will file a worthless lawsuit because what Obama is doing is illegal. But the lawsuit wouldn’t be heard until Ostinko is on his way out.

You know FRiends, all of this is about party politics. I knew they would not do a thing because it might hurt their chances for 2016. Which is pure crap. That shutdown didn’t hurt their chances, I believe most people saw that Obama was at fault because of the nasty stuff he was doing.

This whole idea that the people blamed the GOP was media and Obama created bullcrap.

Among other things:

Immediately ask Hillary Clinton is she supports this or not?

have him arrested and charged with treason?

Defund Obama's living and travel expenses. Defund his medical and put him on Obamacare until it's repealed.

Why do treason, and have him get off the hook? Report him to the Hague for crimes against humanity.

“They will wring their hands and complain a lot.”

It might be difficult to find time to do this, what with all the checks from the Chamber of Commerce Boehner and McConnell will have to deposit.

The reason that nothing will happen after Obama performs this illegal act isn’t that the Republican leadership is spineless, or clueless. They are bought and paid-for whores of the corporatists forces who want all that cheap labor to flood the markets.

Same thing as with Obamacare which is designed to enrich insurance companies and relieve corporations from the costs of providing health care. The Republican establishment is in on it.

Enjoy the Kabuki theater as they doth protest too much.

I suppose they could always send him a sternly worded letter, protesting his actions...

“What difference does it make” obama and the gop-e are fighting over who will get to declare amnesty, the gop-e has help against obama by Conservatives who want to then stop the gop-e “conservatives” from enacting amnesty. It’s kind of convoluted, I really don’t understand any “conservative” Republican being for anything except “enforcing existing immigration law and protecting our borders”. What makes Senator Alexander “conservative” other than he refers to himself as “conservative”?

Fund it.

When I first arrived on Free Republic, I heard your dark and (I perceived) dangerous mutterings, and I thought you to be somewhat insane.

Now I realize that your mutterings were nowhere near dark and dangerous enough.

Oh, excuse me I forgot, Senator Alexander is NOT for amnesty, he’s FOR a “pathway to citizenship”, he thinks we’re stupid and can’t figure out it’s the same thing.

It is what they will do, not what they could do that is the question. I will submit , judging from past experiences of the GOP, that they will do nothing.

“Many Republicans” does not include the Republicans who will can make or break the response, Boehner and McConnell. A rational response will be difficult when the leadership is essentially Democrat plants.

How about somebody educating the public on what CURRENT law is and what Obola is not enforcing or ignoring. The rats are claiming we have no law, which is not true. The current laws are reasonable and fair.

The country is beyond worrying about that. We are close to if not at a point where we will be choosing between Communbism or Islam or Corporate Socialism or Latin American style Generalisimo. If we have any real choice left at all. The Republic is in its death throes. It won’t come back.

Congress should pass legislation authorizing the states to enforce federal immigration laws. Also legislation granting money to the states for the enforcement effort.

Politically, it would be tough for Obama to veto such a bill, but he might do so anyway.

Then, there is a good chance that enough Dems would vote with Republicans to override the veto. See: Oregon vote on driver's licenses for illegal immigrants.

Rino’s will let it happen.

Hopefully, the furor will be so great over it that 2016 will put Cruz into the White House.
