A new strain of racism from the newest Americans
The Washington Times ^ | November 16, 2014 | Armstrong Williams

Racism in America has often been reduced to white-against-black discrimination, and understandably so. After all, it was white colonists who forcibly removed Africans from their homeland and brought them to America to serve as slaves on plantations.

It’s called the Balkanization of America.

Compared to America, the Balkans are racially very little diversified.

Yeah, well, it was their fellow Africans who rounded them up and sold them.

Besides, those colonists were not Americans yet, they were still Europeans.

It was Americans who began the effort to abolish slavery in America.

He’s a liar. muslims stole blacks from their homeland and enslaved them, other black Africans did as well. Few whites did this, although of course they played their part down the line.

Just get it right.

No need to read further. Apparently the Author chooses to IGNORE the FACT that it was blacks who sold blacks INTO slavery during the colonial period, and today STILL blacks sell blacks into slavery in Africa.

But those pesky facts get in the way of a good emotional argument ....

Yeah, clearly I was naive to think Black against White racism was even a possibility.

When I noticed “newest” in the headline, for a moment I thought it might be the fact that blacks from Africa pretty quickly get annoyed with African Americans. Eternal optimist, I guess.

Hispanic intolerance for (some) blacks has been around since the 1970s, though, so not sure why this is presented as a big revelation.

Portugese coffee growers in Brazil initiated the traffic in African slaves to the Western hemisphere. A South America-bound shipload of slaves, blown off course by a storm, un-intentionally brought the first African slaves to the English colonies, specifically Jamestown.

Or not.

That's not exactly true... Fellow Africans willing to sell one another, Arab slave traders, and by the way, wasn't the first person to change indentured servitude to slavery in the Colonial America, black?

The complete truth is that the tribes in Africa enslaved other tribes, some for tribal use and some for sale to other Africans, Arabs and Europeans. (This was similar to what prevailed in Europe during the first millennium). And the term Africa was simply the Roman name for that geographical land mass south of the Mediterranean. It did not connote any kind of familial, cultural or linguistic relationship between the tribes. Slavery wasn't some kind of exceptional practice. It was one of the benefits of winning wars, in addition to getting agricultural or grazing land, nubile women and useful implements, in a world that, until the 20th century, was ~90+% employed in near-subsistence* agriculture.

* Meaning one bad harvest meant hunger or even famine.

It is never mentioned that most slaves were sold by their people into slavery.

Being defeated in battle meant slavery. Or summary execution. They were kept for domestic use or sold to other African tribes or Arabs before Europeans came along.

England, Spain, and The Netherlands brought slavery to the new world; the US inherited the problem when gaining freedom from King George the Fifth. It took us (United States) eighty years to fight a war to end slavery... and another 80 years to enact civil rights.... Those who were slaves have only themselves to blame after nearly 60 years of freebies from the USG favoring them over all other peoples inhabiting the country.

George the Fifth? We got our independence during World War I?

Try George the Third.

White colonists removed blacks from their homeland? Muslims removed blacks from their homeland and sold them to colonists.

About the same time as the slave trade took place in central and western Africa, an estimated 1.25 million Europeans were enslaved by the Barbary Corsairs - Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya. Corsairs also conducted slave raids along the coastal communities of France, Portugal, Spain, England and Ireland They were known as the white slaves of Barbary. Slavery is one of the oldest trades known to man. It didn’t happen only in America.

I suspect that every human who walks the earth is descended from both slaves and slave masters. Since white Europeans got in the slave business relatively recently in terms of history and because that enterprise has been well documented by white Europeans, the world gets to ignore the transgressions of others and pretend that only white people
have committed that detestable act.
