Obama dismisses renewed criticism of health care law

BRISBANE, Australia — President Obama dismissed renewed criticism of his signature health care law Sunday and disputed an assertion from a former architect of the policy who claimed the administration had deceived lawmakers.

Jonathan Gruber, an economist, suggested last year that the administration’s signature health-care legislation passed in part because of the “stupidity of the American voter” and a “lack of transparency” over its funding mechanisms.

“I just heard about this,” Obama said at a new conference, after wrapping up two days of meetings with world leaders here at the G-20 Summit. “The fact that some adviser who never worked on our staff expressed his opinion that I completely disagree with — it is no reflection on the actual process that was run.”....

....“We had a year-long debate,” Obama said. “Go look back at your stories. One thing we can’t say is that we didn’t have a lengthy debate over health care in the United States. Every press outlet here should go back and pull up every clip and every story. It’s fair to say there is not a provision in the health care law that was not extensively debated and was not fully transparent.”......

David Horowitz, June 2000: “...........The first truth about leftist missionaries, about believing progressives, is that they are liars. But they are not liars in the ordinary way, which is to say by choice. They are liars by necessity—often without even realizing that they are. Because they also lie to themselves. It is the political lie that gives their cause its life.

Why, for example, if you were one of them, would you tell the truth? If you were serious about your role in humanity’s vanguard, if you had the knowledge (which others did not), that you were certain would lead them to a better world, why would you tell them a truth that they could not “understand” and that would hold them back?

If others could understand your truth, you would not think of yourself as a “vanguard.” You would no longer inhabit the morally charmed world of an elite, whose members alone can see the light and whose mission is to lead the unenlightened towards it. If everybody could see the promised horizon and knew the path to reach it, the future would already have happened and there would be no need for the vanguard of the saints.

That is both the ethical core and psychological heart of what it means to be a part of the left. That is where the gratification comes from. To see yourself as a social redeemer. To feel anointed. In other words: To be progressive is itself the most satisfying narcissism.

That is why it is of little concern to them that their socialist schemes have run aground, burying millions of human beings in their wake. That is why they don’t care that their panaceas have caused more human suffering than all the injustices they have ever challenged. That is why they never learn from their “mistakes.” That is why the continuance of Them is more important than any truth.

If you were active in the so-called “peace” movement or in the radical wing of the civil rights causes, why would you tell the truth? Why would you tell people that no, you weren’t really a “peace activist,” except in the sense that you were against America’s war. Why would you draw attention to the fact that while you called yourselves “peace activists,” you didn’t oppose the Communists’ war, and were gratified when America’s enemies won?

What you were really against was not war at all, but American “imperialism” and American capitalism. What you truly hated was America’s democracy, which you knew to be a “sham” because it was controlled by money in the end. That’s why you wanted to “Bring the Troops Home,” as your slogan said. Because if America’s troops came home, America would lose and the Communists would win. And the progressive future would be one step closer...........”

I don’t remember debate. They shoved it down our throats. The only debate was how they could screw the American public and make them like it!

Washington Post Fact Checker: The biggest Pinocchios of 2013 ".......President Obama ended up with three of the most misleading claims of the year........

[SNIP]

“If you like your health-care plan, you can keep it.”

This memorable promise by President Obama backfired on him when the Affordable Care Act went into effect and millions of Americans started receiving cancellation notices. As we explained, part of the reason for so many cancellations is because of an unusually early (March 23, 2010) cut-off date for grandfathering plans — and because of tight regulations written by the administration. This was our most popular fact check of the year — and Obama’s pledge also was also named PolitiFact’s “Lie of the Year.”

I could keep my Medicare supplement...Sure...The premium went from $40 a month to $99.60...and that would be in addition to the $15 they take right out of my SS check.

There was no debate. He stayed home from Hawaii for a few extra days and made phone calls. I call those calls...”The Marcy Park Phone Calls”.

It’s fair to say there is not a provision in the health care law that was not extensively debated and was not fully transparent.”

2,700 never read pages of law were truly transparent??? WTF

22,000 new pages of HHS regulations, most of which are written in such an intentional, convoluted style so as to be barely coherent have been foisted upon us.

REPEAL IT, rip it out by the roots.
Roots? Is that raciss?

In June of next year the Supreme Court will rule on whether the written language of the law has precedent over how this administration would like it to be. If they rule against the Administration, then subsidies go away for most of the country (except for 13 states with their own exchanges).

So I read this quote from the president:

“It’s fair to say there is not a provision in the health care law that was not extensively debated and was not fully transparent.”.”

My question is whether this quote can be used at the Supreme Court hearing (March, 2015) on the written language of the bill. It will make the decision VERY EASY for the court.

I've been a school board member for just a year and I am amazed at what I read these days just seems to target exactly what I think and suspect (regarding 'public' school stuff) that before was just ... reading.

David wrote that a century ago (of COURSE that's an exageration, silly .. ) and it was just another, "Yeah, I agree .. them lefties are ... "

I read that today and I see a face (or faces) and attach a real human being I know to that essay.

NO one (it seems) wants to be on the school board, but I am having more activist fun saying zinger things and learning that there are some silent Christians that have discovered a voice because I'm just a little more vocal than most and now they don't feel so alone.

Run for school board ... especially if you're retired ... you'll probably win.
